How much data is used when playing pandora on iphone?

question is straight forward. i plan to use internet radio when working out, primarily running on the treadmill. has anyone done this before? how much data is used per hour?

    I've never had an issue with it. And I listen to it working out as well. I still use not even half of my data.

    my gym does not have free wi-fi. my data limit is 2gb per month so most likely not going to use pandora if data usage is more than that.

    I was just making that up...I'd actually guess 100-200 mb based on how much data mp3's are.

    I listen to pandora at work for 4 hours a day. That's how long my bluetooth's battery is good for. I'll use my 5 GB's in about 2 weeks so I'm guessing each 4 hour session uses 1/2 a GB.

    BTW, if you have Verizon as your carrier, and you do exceed your 2GB limit for the month, your monthly bill only increases by $10 for each additional GB. That's not unreasonable.

    Is it still high speed?

    I would rack up a hundred extra dollars a month. With t-mobile, they slow your internet down to smash-your-head slow @ss internet, but I still hit 7GBs a month.

    Okay. Lets do a little math.

    A typical CD quality audio stream is 192kbps (192,000 bits per second). Sometimes it can go as low as 128, but we'll use 192 in this calculation, since most 3G carriers can easily sustain those data rates without interruption.

    So at 192,000 bps constant stream, thats...

    11,520,000 bits per minute (11.5 Mb)
    691,200,000 bits per hour (691.2 Mb)
    16,588,800,000 bits per day (16.6 Gb)

    Now, here's where a lot of people get confused. There is a difference between a bit and a byte. A byte consists of 8 bits. And carriers measure their caps in bytes. But as you can see, our data stream example above is in bits. So to get an accurate idea of how much goes against your cap in bytes, you must divide.

    691,200,000 / 8 = 86.375 MB

    So there ya go. Pandora uses about 86 MB per hour from your plan. Not including ads. lol :bigsmile:

    I honestly use my apps all the time on my phone..I hardly ever use my wifi and im constantly on my phone. I never go over 2 GB.
