start netting more than i used to?
I mean, I used to eat 1200 kcal a day on average, then burn around 200-300, which made me net around 900-1000. I know it's quite unhealthy and probably slowed my metabolism (because I get colder faster than I used to but then I get hungry 2-3 hours after I eat so I'm not sure) I wonder if I'd end up with a yo-yo effect now as I started eating between 1400-1500 which is around my bmr and netting 1200. Is this possible? I'm an 18 year old female, 5'7, 123 lbs.

I think this is a good idea. You should be fine. Some people see a small initial gain at first after eating so little for awhile, but that shouldn't last long. IMO, at your age, height, and weight, you should probably be eating even more. Enjoy being young while you can :).

As you increase calories, make sure to give yourself time to see how it is working (weeks, not days). Don't freak out and move back lower.
  • If you was losing about 1 pound a week.
You should be able to go 500 a day with no weight gain.
You should be great shape to up the calories.

Yes as said for your height and age you can net quite a lot more than you are still lose. Add healthy fats and lean proteins to take up your calories. Things like avocado, full fat dairy, whole eggs, nut butters, nuts/ seeds or add a little extra healthy oil like olive or coconut to your food.
  • If i gained a little, would it be fat or water weight?
I think I'd be fine with my weight staying the same for a few weeks, but I don't like idea of gaining some of the fat back

Should be water, and it will reverse itself. You will still be at a deficit, so you are not going to gain fat at 1400-1500 calories.

You should check out the threads trytclyn sent. The Roadmap is what helped me figure out how many calories I needed to eat. Are you still trying to lose?
  • Yes, I am... I'm close to my goal though, so I decided to drop those last pounds of fat slowly.

Why are you eating at a deficit at all? 5'7 and 123lbs is at the very low end of healthy BMI.
  • It doesn't seem to be a lot, but I'm pretty small framed and I still look quite big next to my friends

Just step it up slowly and be smart about your food choices.

agreed :( skinny fat is the worst thing

hmmm actually I'm not sure if I would gain after looking at my last 2 weeks' diary logs again... seems like 've been jumping between 1100 and 1500 the whole time so I guess it's alright if I keep them high then slowly increase calories
