Restaurant w/o nutr. Info.. Which is better?

Meeting my mom for Lunch. Googles the cafe, it doesn't have nutritional info. I'm not freaking out or anything. It's a meal with my mom.
But there is a lot of events with lots of food this time of year, plus my birthday is next week, and we are gong on a road trip/vacation to Miami Florida for two weeks, , so I just wanna make good choices where I can.

I think I want the cherry apricot chicken salad sandwich

I could get it on a croissant (how it comes) or ask to have it sourdough or wheat...
Or maybe no bread at all and get a side of chips.

Lunch WILL be followed with a signature cafe speciality cookie.

Ask many restaraunts have nutritional info available. Its difficult for us to speculate on healthy choices without more information.

And how wold I record calories in my food log? Everyone seems to talk about about not logging, like they are lazy and will get fat and lose commitment if they don't log... But that's silly. Something's are just hard to log. I know I am not binging or anything.

Or is there an easy way to figure out calories for logging?

It's a mom and pop place. It's not online, the Info, and I really doubt they will have it there. But I could ask.

Relax, get whatever you want, and enjoy every delicious bite.

Sometimes skipping out on logging for a day is what we really need. Eventually, you're probably going to want to stop logging anyway. Think of it as "maintenance practice."

I am addicts to that weekly tab on the app...LOL. I works to make Monday through Saturday fit my weekly pie chart, I can't just give up Sunday and have a messed up pie chart. I need mental help.

I will just enjoy myself, but maybe opt for a chicken salad as a salad not a sandwich. I will still enjoy it. And eat a big birthday cookie!

I would skip the cookie. A subway cookie is over 200 calories.

As for the sandwich, I would eat it as is and just log it the best I could. If I made any changes I would choose a flat bread and take off the top and eat it with a fork. At home I tend to make open faced sandwiches.

Edited to add: I was writing at the time you mentioned wanting to eat the cookie for birthday purposes. That's okay too. No shame here. I had cookies this week as I was helping my child make them for a project.

By the way, I live abroad. I frequently don't have nutritional information. I just log it as coming from whatever restaurant I can find that has a similar item and assume it is higher calorie than I would make it at home. I've been fine.

whenever I go out if there is not a low cal section on the menu. I always choose grilled and rice as a side with veggies and I do okay.....

I go out to eat a fair amount. A simple salad, broiled steak, chicken or seafood and double vegetables is pretty easy to calculate. You can ask for steamed veggies or sauteed in a little oil. I skip dessert unless fresh fruit is on the menu, but that's because I eat low carb. Go for it you won't turn into an cookie monster like I would :-)

I would bet that there is some type of chicken salad in the list that will give you a ballpark. Even if you miss it by a couple hundred calories, it's just one meal and won't make or break you. If you're really concerned do an extra 30min of exercise to counter balance a little.
  • I'd skip the croissant and have wheat bread. that alone will save you quite a few calories and make the cookie all the more enjoyable!

On the road trip just decide what you will and will not have - for example maybe resist fries and always do the salad or cup of soup instead. Always order dressing on the side. Skip the croutons. Eat dessert.
Make allowances to enjoy what you want and for the things not worth it - skip them!

I know with most meats, palm-sized and about the thickness of a deck of cards is usually 4 ounces :)
