Lessons learned!

While stumbling through my run yesterday, I realized: I've been doing this about a week more than 6 months. Six months! I remember thinking when I signed up for this right after Memorial Day, "I want to lose 45 pounds, but really if I lose 30 I'll be happy." So here I sit at 27.6. No way will I settle for just 30. 45, here I come. So again, on this failed run, I started thinking about how little things have been changing, things I've learned, big milestones, etc. Thought I'd share them!

-You CAN start and finish C25K in the middle of a southern summer. It's torture, but possible.
-I can run a 5k, 10k, and 15k without dying.
-If forced, I could probably run a half (or mostly run) without dying.
-I used to eat fast food maybe once a week--nothing big, but I'm a grad student and sometimes it just happens. I don't remember the last time I ordered any food at a "fast food" restaurant. I just don't crave it anymore.
-Quinoa, no matter HOW MUCH people SWEAR it tastes (and can replace) like rice....it doesn't. It tastes vegetable-y. Kind of corn-y/bean-y.
-People just like to talk. And they aren't always right. But they will argue at you like they are.
-Lots of peeps on MFP would date, marry, shag, divorce, dump, leave, flirt, and do a variety of other things, with other members. And they aren't shy expressing themselves.
-Running is 99% mental. Get past that mental block and you're golden.
-Jillian Michaels still kicks my butt. And annoys me.
-You know that really unhealthy meal you love at a restaurant? you can make it at home (it'll be close to as good) for WAY less calories and sodium.
-"reduced fat" food has WAY too many unpronouncable chemicals in it to eat
-I still hate most veggies
-steel cut oats are marvelous (especially with nutella)
-you can yell at me til you're blue in the face, but I will not give up nutella. I've lost almost 28 pounds eating it every week. take that.

What about you? Got any revelations since being on this site/working out/eating right? Let's hear 'em!

I effing hate cardio that is not directly playing a sport.

I'm actually better off not doing it (knees and back feel a LOT better now).

Oh, and I wish I'd have eaten more and lifted harder as a teenager. It gets so much harder to put on muscle later in life.

    - I've learned that for the most part, unless I'm logging or otherwise watching my intake, I'm consuming a lot more calories than I think.
    - I also hate cardio that isn't directly playing a sport (or in my case, dancing). Running is the only other form of cardio I can tolerate - but only if I lip sync and dance like a fool. It's definitely mental.
    - I've learned that fitness and eating well will always be a learning process no matter how much experience/knowledge/research you have and that seemingly obvious things might be overlooked. For me, one of those things was dietary fat =/= body fat. I know. I know.
