    Adding black walnuts to an otherwise lovely chocolate cake
    Using woody, greenish tomatoes in a salad
    Using chicken stock in soups that would otherwise be vegetarian
    Using gelatin in baked goods that would otherwise be vegetarian
  • Using 2 slices of white bread as a hamburger bun - which my mom had to do when I was younger - desperate times call for desperate measures.

    lol been there! To this day I refuse to eat a hamburger like that. I'd rather eat it plain!

    In south India there are a lot of dishes where they either use camphor or rose water when cooking them. Blechhhh - I don't like my food tasting like perfume, thank you very much ... just not my thing. But, my husband is that same way with Root Beer, Dr. Pepper, and any wintergreen-flavored mints. To him, they taste/smell like Iodex - similar to Icy Hot. Funny thing is, I don't have any problem with that taste ...

    That's so funny! I agree with your husband that wintergreen mint smells like Icy Hot but I don't mind it lol. Rather, I think Icy Hot smells like wintergreen. I do hate root beer too but Dr. Pepper's OK.
