Um, Chicken, beef, pork....any other meat that isn't turkey?

Not sure where you are getting that oatmeal is low carb.

Fruits and vegetables with protein (meat/nuts/cheese)

For example a steak with green beens or asparagus in cheese sauce is low carb, high protein and really delicious!

You don't need to follow someone else's diet plan exactly- use MFP to track carbohydrates, and limit yourself to whatever your upper limit is, you can eat whatever foods you want to get there. Protein and fat-rich foods like tuna, eggs, meat, cheese, nuts, and low-calorie density foods like green vegetables will get you a lot more food than oatmeal or bread.

oatmeal isn't low carb...more vegetables, cut out the fruit, more tuna, chicken, fish...no more white bread, white rice, white potatoes, skip the ranch dip, do some research ( i like diabetic's diets for ideas because they're generally low carb)

I'm currently on a low carb diet, been on it for a few weeks now, KETO (High Carb/Moderate Protein/Zero-Low carb) diet to be exact, similar to Atkins but I take in approx. under 15g of carbs/day.

First off, OATMEAL is definitely not low carb, OATMEAL is all carbs, but you have to subtract the Fiber from the actual carbs because Fiber doesn't get placed into your bloodstream & used.

As far as low carb, here is what I keep in stock:

    - BACON (TONS OF BACON) you can use it with anything.
    - Chicken breasts
    - Eggs
    - Pork (Pork Chops mostly)
    - Ground Beef (non-lean, higher fat content)
    - Steak (once in a while)
    - Pepperoni Slices (Great sources of fat/zero carb)
    - Mozarella Cheese
    - Avocados
    - Almonds (limit myself to 1 serving/day)
    - Any Oils (EVOO, Coconut, etc..)

There some more that I can't think of from the top of my head.

But there is a lot out there & if you get tired of the same old thing, mix & match!

Here is a great website for recipes & low-carb foods you can actually order! Sweets, treats, etc..

Like other people said, this is popular among diabetics, has been shown to get rid of Type II diabetes.

Also "Why low carb?" Low Carb diets, such as the Keto diet is great for burning fat/losing weight. If you stick to it consistently, & keep yourself in ketosis, your body starts using your fat stores as energy instead of carbohydrates which is what is used in most other diets. Meaning that you will burn off your fat/lose weight faster. Also there has been studies shown that it does improve overall health.

yes it is, I'm sorry if I'm not as educated about nutrition as you are, my thoughts are that there are no silly questions, fools are those who remain in doubt.

The problem is that you are looking for a diet. EAT... Count what you eat and track it... get yourself under your calorie allowance and you will lose weight. If you have a condition then eat food your doctor recommends... Some guidelines I have for myself are 5 servings of whole grain per day, three servings of fruit, three servings of veggies, one serving of beans, one serving of nuts or seeds per day. When I have these fit into the daily plan I find it easier to limit my calories because I am already full on lower carb higher fiber foods.

I'm mostly replying to find the topic later, as there was a lovely low-carb list posted and my lack of imagination food wise usually ends with me staring at eggs in horror when I try to low-carb it.

I do genuinely want to know what low carb diet you ran across that suggested oatmeal, though. Oatmeal is a bit of a staple in my house for my child and even the one that's quinoa, flax and oats is pretty high in carbohydrates. Is it safe to assume that whatever diet it is recommends an oatmeal that's high in soluble fiber to "negate" the carbs?

Why don't you just eat everything you love to eat but stay under your calories for the day? No going without things you enjoy then, makes it so much easier to stick to for the rest of your life.

    If you're looking for a Low Carb diet consume these foods;

Lots of lean meats- chicken breast ...
Green Leafy vegs- spinach Kale broccoli bok choi ...
    Eggs / Egg Whites
Eggplant Bell peppers Green onions mushrooms ... 1 cup per day
    Seafood

    Reduce Salt Intake
    No frying
    No Breads Pasta or Rice
Only use a small amount of Olive oil to prepare foods
Refrain from root vegs- onions carrots potatoes as they are very starchy with the exception of garlic and ginger for cooking

I've tried it in the past and it work amazingly well but it definitely doesn't teach you to lead a healthier lifestyle (just my opinion)
And at this stage of my life I'm on the path of leading a Healthy Balanced Lifestyle
However having said that since I've been eating clean for sometime now I've really been considering to do a low carb diet for 1-2 weeks just because my birthday is coming and I'd like to lose some just to give myself a gift as I don't need anything and it will motivate me even more-- in the past on this particular diet I have lost 12lbs in two weeks
People who do this diet lose anywhere from 5-14lbs in two weeks it safe and designed by a doctor

If you need anymore information message me and if you'd like to start this together friend me
--I will only do it short term as I truly believe in Clean Healthy Eating -- getting all the nutrients your body needs on a daily basis and having a balance--

--Please remember our body requires carbohydrates in order to function at its optimal level and our brains absolutely requires it to function -- (I am aware that you can get carbs from vegs as well but I'm speaking of grains ...)

    I hope this helps!!!
  • lean and green on utube has great ideas! its mostly meals prepared for the medifast diet. which is low carb.
the jest is five of their meals then one low carb meal u cook/ many ppl have posted videos and blogs called LEAN and GREEN (or search medifast lean and green meals)
    they have fun ideas.
like how to make a pizza with cauliflower as a crust and veggies on top. or fish n veggies cokked different ways u will never get board.

use some of their ideas and add them to this site and monitor the carbs.
this is what i do. ive done this and love it. and ppl r wrong u can learn different meals...and have a lifestyle with this way of eating. i find the only way i can lose weight is when i monitor my carbs. i dont cut them out. u do need carbs.....just monitor the amount and u will see weight loss.

u can lose weight and eat alot if u try to keep ur carbs under 110.
