I haven't done that but in some climates the lawn guys plow snow in the winter to get some work during that season too. Some of them hang Christmas lights too.
  • I live in Orlando, FL. There's no snow here. The Chrismas lights is a good idea.
  • All the lawn maintenance companies up here hired a bunch of illegal immigrants under the table. Seems legit.

Ours also do spring/fall yard cleanup and trimming, gutter cleaning, sprinkler start up/shut down, and plow snow in the off season.

Whatever you do, make sure you know the employment rules for any employees you may have (FICA, unemployment insurance, etc) and that you have adequate workers comp and safety equipment. Some individuals in our area have gotten in trouble for working off the books - really loved the guy who attached a post-it to his invoices saying "no sales tax if checks are made out to John Doe".

I've looked into it before, it's difficult to make the return on investment.
