Well I have been on MFP for almost 4 weeks and I have lost 20 pounds. I have been going to the gym almost everyday and have been watching my calorie intake. I just want to make sure I am doing everything possible to lose this weight. I started at 400 and now I am at 380. I know it says its healither to lose weight slowly which I understand but is there anything else I can be doing to help it along. Thank You.

I don't know much about weight loss because I'm just begining my journey but sounds like you are on the right track! 20 lbs in 4 weeks is amazing. I think it's better to take your time and keep doing what your doing because it sounds like you are making lifestyle changes, that's what counts. If it were as simple as taking a pill and keeping it off forever everyone would do that, but we all know that doesn't work. Just remember it's a marathon, not a sprint. You are doing AMAZING!!!

Not a lot of people contribute this often enough, but one of the most important things to remember when dieting is to drink PLENTY of water. The recommendation of 6 8-oz. servings a day is the minimum to maintain proper hydration. The maximum recommendation for the average person is 3/4 gallon a day or 96 fluid ounces. Going much farther past that limit puts you into water intoxication territory and that is fatal. I try to stick to at least 1/2 gallon of water a day to maintain proper organ function.
  • Be patient my friend!!!! i know it's exciting to see the pounds come off chunks at a time but in the long run you will keep it off longer if you do it slower! Make sure you keep well hydrated drink lots of water!!! i have lost about 60lbs and it took me about a year, i started off at 205 (i beieve) now i am 145 and let me tell you enjoy the weeks you loose wieght becuase there will be weeks you don't and it's pretty hard to stay with it!! Make excercising a habit!! Good luck with your journey and you will be where you want to be in no time!!

You are doing awesome! 20 lbs in that amount of time is fantastic! The heavier you are, the more weight you will lose at the beginning of any program. I lose on average 2 lbs a week. I'm on the food lovers fat loss program. You can check it out at myfoodlovers.com

I'm echoing the water recommendations. I found that getting my 8 glasses a day seriously helped speed my weight loss. But 5 pounds a week is fantastic, so I don't think you need to worry. Great job!
