Over on protein, is this a bad thing?

Hey all, Just joined after being a Weight Watcher for a long time (on and off and most recently on and on and more on). I got sick of them changing the program!

Anyway, day 1 and I've tracked my food and I'm 22g in the red for protein and 90g in the green for carbs, even though each meal has a reasonable amount of each.

Breakfast was baked beans, lunch a ham, cream cheese and salad wholemeal roll, dinner is a lamb stew with potato and snacks include corn thins.

So I'm hardly eating low carb, but also wouldn't think I was over doing the protein!

My question is - given we are counting calories, does it matter that I'm over on protein and under on carbs? Should I just switch the tracker for those off and concentrate on calories for now?

Thanks!

  • Hey whats happenin! I'm not an expert or anything, but it's not protein or carbs alone that makes you fat, it's an over consumption of calories. From all of the fitness gurus out there, what I've understood is, as long as you burn more calories than what you intake, you'll lose weight. I'm just giving my opinion, hope you find what you're looking for. Goodluck!

MFP sets protein pitifully low, so if you're consistently going over (like most people I know who have MFP settings), then go to My Home - Goals - Change - Custom settings and increase your protein percentage. 30% protein/40% carbs/30% fat is pretty standard around here and what works for a lot of people. More protein is always better!
