50 shades of fed up

I'm feeling very p.ssed today. Been "dieting" for the last 2 months or so, limiting my calories to 1500 a day and doing the 30 day shred. (admitedly with a day or so off overall). Yes I have toned up and I probably have lost some inches but my forking scale is still EXACTLY the same.

I am 5'9 and at my heaviest I weighed 12s 10lbs but I have been 10 stone for the last two years. For some reason I just can't seem to get below this, try as I might. I'm going on holiday on the 29th of Dec and I desperately wanted a flat tum for my 30th birthday. WHAT DO I DO PEOPLE?!

Is it even possible in my timescales and also given the fact that realistically I will be drinking and over indulging on at least 3 days until then?!

Advice please.

If you're toned and losing inches, then does it matter what the scale says? I'll take the mirror and the tape over the scale any day of the week :)

Please don't get disheartened, you're winning!

hi there, firstly ... forget what the scale says... the lost inches and toning up are brilliant!

secondly, it may be water weight.... it may be that you need a new set of scales....try mixing up your exercise, do you do planking? thats brilliant for the core and abs :-)

You must have a stunning figure, especially after the Shred! I'm 5' 4" and happily aiming for 10 stone. I think the measuring tape should be more important to us all than the number on the scale, it's society that seems to consider weight is the most important factor, what a load of tosh, you are toned and healthy, be proud!

I would start taking waist, neck, bicep, and thigh measurements and not focus so much on the what the scale says. Also if you can get a bodyfat calliper test.

If you're still not losing according to the above measurements start weighing out your food if you don't already and think about purchasing a heart rate monitor.

I'm 5'6" and aiming for 11 stone, possibly 10.5 stone. At 11 stone I will be easily into size 12 trousers (UK), maybe some size 10 things. At my thinnest, 10 years ago, I was 10 stone 7 and I am nearly as small as I was then now at 11 stone 13.

Weight is just a number, it's how you look that matters and how toned you are.

    Definitely take measurements instead.

I did take my meassurements, for the first time in my life and to me they seem huge.
    They are:
    Hips-35.4"
    Waist-29.5
    Boobs-36.2

And i have a "pooch" on my belly.

Think I might donate my scales to the charity shop this weekend. grrrrr

10 stone sounds perfect for your height and you've a lovely figure from your profile pic. If you had less muscle you'd probably weigh less but I bet you wouldn't look as good. Maybe 10stone is where you're supposed to be?

Edited to add that if you still would like to lose a bit more, have you tried the 5:2 diet aka intermittent fasting? I'm finding it brilliant and I don't feel deprived. I am currently 9st 7 down from 10st 5, but I am 3 inches shorter than you.

At 5 foot 9 and 10 stone your bmi is 20% which is the lower half of the healthy weight range. So you don't need to lose - like others have said, toning up will pull your waist in and decrease your measurements without any more weight loss.

I envy those measurements though - sounds like you're nicely proportionate, especially with the height too.

There is nothing wrong with your measurements or your weight, you are definitely not "huge". And the pooch is just something a lot of us have to keep working at, it takes a long time. Some people say that if they cut out wheat products, their belly is less bloated.

The only thing wrong is your expectations. So you are working out and holding a little water to repair your muscles and you are already on the lower end of the weight scale. So you really can't lose much weight. And it's not weight loss that will get rid of your pouch, it's fat loss. And that takes time. If you really want to see major improvements with your body, drop the JM crap and start a weight training routine, like strong lift 5x5. WT is much more effective at fat loss.

For good fun, below is what happens when you concentrate on fitness instead of weights. She is only 5'4" and weighs 140 (20 lb of muscle gained as she used to weigh 120). Over time, if you still struggle to get rid of the pouch, you might need to add some muscle back to fill in your skin.

I agree with this. You are at a great weight for your height. I think you would see fabulous changes in your body shape with weight training. It wouldn't take long either. Happy Birthday btw. I love my 30's!
  • Muscle weighs more than fat, yo!

I am slightly in awe of Staci. Wow..
  • Thanks everyone. I guess it's time to hit the weights. I find the weight section in the gym very foreign and quite intimidating. Wouldn't it be lovely if we all went to the same gym and you could show me the ropes!

As someone who has never done weight training, what should my expectations be in terms of seeing results?

    Mine are bigger!
    Hips - 41
    waist - 30
    boobs - 38

And i've had 2 kids so my belly isn't great still!

I have a personal trainer so I feel quite confident using weights, but I do sometimes feel intimidated using them if the gym is full and there are loads of blokes posing!

Look up strong lift 5x5. it's a good, free, beginners program. It's all compound moves so it provides a great workout.

I've just read this and I like the simplicity. Going to read it again, try to get my head around what the actual exercises are and then make aplan to start doing them. thank you!
