Calorie deficits when sick

General question: When you're fighting a cold or the flu, does being in calorie deficit affect your recovery time? Does the body need extra calories to fight off infection? I'm not talking about being below the 1200 calories for your body to function.
Most people don't have an appetite when they're sick and I want to know if I should force myself (or my kids) to eat.

Jk
When sick I stick to my calorie goal but try to incorporate a lot more nutritious foods to help combat the sickness (rich in vitamin c, chicken soup, etc)0
