outer hip pain re: treadmill running

I have been running/jogging on the treadmill for well over a year now. Recently, I have started having outer hip pain within hours or days of a run. I stretch well (or thought I did) after a warmup and at the end of my workout. I don't have hip discomfort but sometimes my low lateral back is sore during the run. I always have the treadmill at a slight incline (2 or more) and go from 2-5 miles. It doesn't seem to matter how far I run, I almost always have the pain. I have a hard time stretching to increase the pain (finding the spot) but it'll hurt the most if I am on my knees but not sitting on my feet (standing on my knees) and doing any overhead bend to the side. Has anyone else had this type of problem?

Do you need new shoes or shoe inserts? I was generally a mess when I started running so I picked up some sorbothane inserts and it helped a TON. I no longer have pain in my hips or sides of my feet and just have the general soreness in my legs.
  • Agreed. New shoes. Even if the wear on the shoes is not visible, your body will feel it in unbalanced foot strikes. You may aldo want to see a chiroprctor. I had hip pain and found that my lower back was out of alignment. Getting that adjusted helped. Having babies can soften your bones and then toting them around can take a toll on your spinal alignment. Give it a try!
