How bad could it be?

There is this local authentic (i.e. ran by Hispanic people) taco stand that has these awesome fish tacos that I am seriously craving.
But given that it's just a mom & pop kinda joint, not a nationwide food chain, I have no idea how many calories are in their products.
Would it be rude to ask what ingredients they use?
The fish tacos in question are pretty simple:
- smallish soft flour tortilla (not fried)
- fish chunks of some kind, maybe breaded.
- some type of cabbage / coleslaw with a slight creaminess.
- a lime wedge on the side
It's making me hungry just thinking about it ...

just guess,
the fish are most likely breaded, then fried in oil. the "creamy" coleslaw is made of mayo and sugar.
go have some, and just estimate your best. even if you're off by a bit, you took care of a craving while still paying attention to your calorie consumption.
sounds like a responsible dieter to me :laugh:0 -
i think rubios has tacos like that...maybe just use their online nutritional guide.0

I have no idea! But my father in law makes awesome fish tacos and now I want some! He does corn tortillas and tilapia - pan fried but not super unheathy. Then he does cabbage and the sauce we use is fat free sour cream and some chili seasoning type of thing. I think if it were me I would make them at home just to be on the safe side!0

They shouldn't be offended if you ask. People ask them often enough I bet.
They just won't give you that one secret ingrediant that make it so darn good.0 -
I usually try to find something comparable that I can match it up to (if it's something I can't find the nutrition info for).0

I was thinking the same thing. Use Rubios as a guide. Maybe not the same creamy white sauce but maybe close. And no, not rude to ask. It's your money and your body.0
