Should I give up steady state cardio

The only problem with steady state cardio I have is time. It feels like I live in the gym most of the time, not getting time to live life at all. Even though I call it steady state, it is more like "longer" interval training, with 4 minutes at 65% of max intensity alternating with 2 minutes of 45% intensity, repeated for a mind blowing 45 minutes. I discovered about and started doing HIIT on alternate days only since the past several month. Till then I was doing only steady state for countless years. Even then my blood sugar was bordering on diabetic, at around 100 mg/dl. It essentially meant that the steady state cardio was a waste of time. After I started doing HIIT, the blood sugar came down to 78 mg/dl. Can I safely give up steady state cardio? Is there a guarantee that my belly will not get bigger because of this?
