this may be a REALLY stupid question.... but im going to ask it anyway....
ive recently decided to cut out all meat from my diet, however i am NOT going Vegan... just Vegitarian so i can still get protein from several sources.... but im curious, would useing whey protein with skim milk be a good substitue as well? ... the question seems to answer itself, but im just curious to see if it can be used as a substitute

Whey protein is great in smoothies, with water/milk/almond or soy milk- just look around and find one you like! I'm vegetarian as well and I use Promasil- very good and works well in protein pancakes/muffins, etc.
For other veggie protein sources, try combinations of lentils/rice/beans (combining them to make a complete protein), cottage cheese, greek yogurt, etc. Try dairy that's 1 or 2% instead of skim as well- if you're cutting out all meat you may find you are lacking fat from your diet.0 -
Whey protein is an excellent source and can help you meet your macro-nutrient goals. Its also important to get your protein from a wide variety of sources to ensure that you get all of the essential amino acids your body requires. So, whey and skim milk is great, just make sure you are also getting protein from non-dairy sources such as eggs, beans, lentils, nuts, and seeds.0

I'm a vegetarian and my main sources of protein include:
EGGS
Egg whites
Cottage cheese
Greek yogurt
Peanut butter
Cheese
Brussel sprouts
Black beans
Lentils
I don't really like the taste of protein powder, but you could definitely use it if you want to. There are many other sources of protein that vegetarians can eat that don't require protein powder, though.0 -
Yeah, definitely. I haven't eaten meat in 13 years and I used to use whey protein powder for my protein all of the time. I'm vegan now and I still manage to get <25% of my calories from protein with a vegan protein powder. If you want something super filling and yummy throw a scoop of protein powder into some oatmeal. Sometimes I get so full I want to cry after eating it lol.0

What you're looking for are complete proteins, meaning they contain an adequate proportion of all nine of the essential amino acids. Generally, proteins from animal foods (meats, fish, poultry, cheese, eggs, yogurt, and milk) are complete, though gelatin is an exception. Proteins derived from plant foods (legumes, grains, and vegetables) tend to have less of one or more essential amino acid.
So, the skim milk should give you the complete proteins, while the whey should just increase your protein consumption for the day. Add both with other incomplete protein sources and you should be fine.0 -
thanks for the feedback everyone0
