Christmas Gift Basket

So my weight loss journey started New Years day this year, so 1/1/12. A couple weeks later, I started teaching at this senior citizen learning center we have on our campus as part of the gerontology program. I teach percussion along with a couple other music majors and we have a beginner/intermediate level band. Point is, they've seen me at my heaviest and have gone with me on this journey.
Halfway through our practice session, as we head into the break, they hand me this gift basket. It's Ghiradelli chocolate. First words out of my mouth are, "Don't you know I'm on a diet?!" They tell me all sorts of things, that I deserve it and that it's Christmas and so it's okay and all things things that I know AREN'T okay. So I'm opening this thing up and looking at nutritional value (thank you, Ghiradelli, for including this information) and realize that I have 200 calories left in the day. I was going to have a protein shake at home for dessert, but hey why not.
So I had four squares. And guess what? I'm still going to keep losing weight. You know why? Because I didn't, and haven't, deprived myself of the foods that I have wanted these past 11 months. It's been a slow process, but what thing that is worth it isn't? One of the ladies I teach shared with us that she has been 30 years sober and proudly showed us her token. She talked about how it took a day at a time but now she no longer things about it any longer. I can't say that I don't think about pizza or decadent cakes any longer, but every single day that I've resisted temptations has helped me get to the point of not craving these things any more. I allowed myself the sweets and savory foods and fatty foods that I wanted, but in moderation, but focused more on eating clean and healthy. And now? My food rewards are healthy foods! And if they're not, I fit them into my macros/calories range. I feel amazing, love eating healthy, and my unhealthy cravings are practically gone.
I just wanted to let you know that, if you're having problems with cravings or with food in general, that you just need to take it a day at a time. Focus on today and make the AA mantra your own personal one for your food problems:
