Christmas cookie? It seems there's been quite a bit of drama going on in the forums today...let's lighten the mood and discuss one of my favorite things....FOOD. I've had a one track mind since Thanksgiving...how soon can I start making Christmas cookies??!

I like them all, but I still think my all-time favorites are the sugar cut outs with powdered sugar frosting - and sprinkles, definitely can't forget the sprinkles.

i have a couple... yes, the sugar cookies - but only because we got into the habit of frosting them with buttercreme frosting so the sprinkles didn't fall off... hershey kisses thumbprint cookies, and

RUM BALLS! :drinker: especially the way my grandma would make them - she's spray them with rum after they were done cooking too... so there was a serious cookie limit at grandma's on Christmas *although, miraculously, all the kids would fall asleep really early*

I like rum balls, and a cinnamon chip one that I've made.

I don't think I've ever had Rum Balls. What are they? Obviously they have rum in them...

    Schweddy Balls
  • My grandmother used to make Anise cookies at Christmas - they were as hard as rocks but soaked in a little coffee they were the best things. I'm sure she used the lard & extra sugar but wow I miss those this time of year.

I think those cookies are what got me hooked on coffee :drinker:

    Rum Balls!

Another one I like is just out of the oven sugar cookies. I don't eat them aside from fresh.

Sounds like what we call "biscochitos" here in the Southwest! Some of my personal favorites...spritz cookies, sugar cookie w/pistachos & dried red cherries, peanut butter cookies with the kiss, chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cookies...too many to list!!

Gingerbread. We would make cookie/ornaments and hang them on the tree, some would actually make it all the way to Christmas.
We would also make a gingerbread house, such a fun thing to do for Christmas. The best houses were always the ones that looked like they had been in some natural disaster, all lopsided and the roof sliding off. Lol

The messy ones always taste the best. IMO

My sister makes these cookies with cut up "orange slices" (you know the ones, you know) that are freakin incredible.

I also like rum balls but I usually make bourbon balls instead as I like bourbon better than rum and my grandmother used to make bourbon balls during the Christmas season.

I am quite thankful that I don't have an overly active sweet tooth...I generally don't crave stuff like this...but I do enjoy my mom's fudge during the holidays.

I typically don't have a sweet tooth either, but come Thanksgiving and Christmas it awakens from its 10-month long slumber.
