What can a cleanse do for me?

Cleanses have no physical benefits. There is no magic cleanse to wipe toxins from your body - if you have a functioning liver and at least one kidney, your body is already removing toxins every day. There is chelation therapy for removing heavy metals like mercury and lead, but you are not going to accomplish anything with apple cider vinegar.

HOWEVER, there are certainly mental/spiritual benefits that may carry over into the physical. The ritual of the cleanse, the clarity in hunger, the freedom from wondering what to eat and going several days without indigestion from too many tacos... these are all good reasons to do a cleanse. For some, a cleanse can be an excellent way to start or recommit to a lifestyle change, like hitting a reset button on your habits. Of course, as any addict who has relapsed after a week home from rehab... there is still plenty of hard work.

Long story short, go ahead, take a cleanse. It's not going to detoxify your body, but neither will it break your metabolism irreparably. You might realize some true and lasting benefits or you might just get really cranky and get fired from your job. But hey, take a risk. Fast for a day, eat nothing but miso soup and Frank's hot sauce for a few days... whatever floats your boat.
