P90x question

I am new here & I have a p90x question to whoever did this or is doing it now. I just started the lean version yesterday & unfortunately I had major issues. I had to sit out most of the push-up moves & some of the other moves as well because I just could not do them. I am a 211 lbs, almost 30 year old stay at home mom & I finally decided to get my life back because I dont want to live like this anymore. Here is my question, if I am having so much trouble with the routine should I stop doing p90x & start a different routine, something easier? Or should I stick with it & keep trying? I am afraid that it won't be as effictive for me because I need to sit some steps out. Please tell me what's best for me, I really need some help.

Hi,
I just started P90X on Monday - those workouts are tough!
Did you do the fit test? how did you do?
People from all levels of fitness start P90X and work their way up - Tony doesn't say do you best and forget the rest for nothing. It's about starting at your current level and working up from there. If that means you're doing a couple of pushups on your knees, or that you can't do an unassisted pull up yet, then that's no big deal. Record what you can do, and the next time you do the workout try to do a little bit more, and then a little bit more. Over time you'll see improvements and when you do you'll feel awesome!
Feel free to friend me, or message me if you have any questions or need encouragement
You've got this!!!0 -
Stick with it. I was the same way. As you go through it, you get stronger. It may take a few weeks before you can complete any of them. But, stick with it. By the end, you'll be soaring through all the workouts. And take before pics. Sometimes you won't feel like you are progressing, but you'll see it in the pics.0

I would say do what you are doing! You may need a break here and there, but the fact that you are still trying, that speaks volumes! P90X believe it or not, made me throw up on the first day. I kept on pressing on and I got stronger and my stamina increased. The fact that you are giving it a shot is amazing. I BET you will be glad you did it when you look back and say, OMG, I am so proud of myself. Keep your head in the game and do NOT quit. As Meghan said, "You've got this!!"0

Keep with it! P90X was so tough for me that I chose to complete Power 90 first before attempting P90X again. Plyo on P90X caused my legs to bruise like you wouldn't believe...so that told me one thing...I wasn't ready for it as yet!0

The recommendation is that if you can't meet the minimums on the fit test that you should not attempt the program yet. If it's so hard that you're going to burn out, it's probably best to take a step back and start somewhere else. You can also continue, but go super slow and modify, modify modify.
I did Body Revolution before P90X. I don't think I would have been ready for X without doing Jillian's program first. Power 90 is also a good lead in program.0 -
Did you do the fit test? You may find another beachbody program more rewarding until you can work your way up to P90X. You don't want to frustrate yourself with not being able to complete most of the steps. It is a very intense program. There are many other programs out there that can get you P90X ready.0

I agree with everyone else! Keep showing up, keep trying, and you WILL improve. I had the same problems when I started insanity, I was sitting out and taking a break every few seconds it felt like. But after weeks of continuing to push a little harder each time, I noticed I took less breaks each work out and did more reps.
Maybe consult your doctor and get a physical if you are worried you may not be ready for this type of exercise.0 -
just try to do as many of the moves as you can... I started out doing pushups on my knees, I worked up to it... These workouts are not meant for someone to find them easy, hell if that was the case they would not work right?! I started out doing p90x2, I LOVED that system... I have also done insanity and the asylum.. getting ready to start les mills combat once I get it... take it slow, make sure you take your measurements (I didn't really drop a lot of pounds but I lost CRAZY inches!! I went from having a size 10-12 pants being tight to size 2...) the workouts do work, just have to really watch what your eating and push your self a little more each time :-) you will get there, it just takes time0

I agree with everyone else to stick with it! I just started Tuesday and I do my push-ups on my knees and use a chair for the pull ups and do what I can. There are things I just can't do yet, like the decline push ups and the dive bombers, eventually I'll be able to do 1! Yesterday was Day 2 and I couldn't do 30 seconds of some of the exercises, but like Tony says, 'do your best and forget the rest!'
You can do this! :happy:0 -

I finished the P90X Lean version in October. When I started I couldn't do pushups, didn't do jumping jacks (knee issues), the superman/banana routine left me laying on the floor many days and let's not even talk about AbRipper X. There is one thing Tony says that you should remember from day 1 to day 90.....
DO YOUR BEST & FORGET THE REST!!!
You're doing this for YOU and if you truly want to the change stick with it. You'll be glad you did!!! :flowerforyou:0 -
Thank you all so very much for your words of encouragement, it gives me hope that I can do this. I will do day 2 today so we'll see how that goes. I did Jillian Michaels (banish fat boost metabolism) workout this morning & so I will do p90x tonight after I put my kids to bed. You guys are great, I will push play again0

don't go overboard... you're going overboard... little steps will WILL get you there!0 -
I agree! Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism is a great workout and pushes you well on its own. I would not combine that in the same day with P90X since they are both made to be a full workout. Instead, I would say go for a 30 minute walk/jog or do a less intensive workout if you want a second workout for the day. When doing HIIT (high intensity interval training) it is generally recommended to do about an hour per day as a full workout. Build UP to it instead of pushing yourself too soon and getting exhausted, or worse, injured. Do a lighter exercise tonight than P90X. Build up to it! In the past couple of months of HIIT training I have seen my endurance go up dramatically, but I still have a ways to go till I’m where I want to be. It’s a daily endeavor seeking continual improvement. Just try to do a little more, a little better each day and you will stay on your way to your fitness goal!! Good work!0

Whoa there! Slow down, choose one workout, and stick to it for a while. Of course you're going to struggle if you over train.0

Thanks again for your feedback. I decided to not do p90x tonight as you all suggested, I do not want to go over board. I feel bad that I will skip a day but hopefully if wont matter that much as I just started yesterday. Tomorrow is a new day & I will try my best to stay on track. Thank you for all your input, you have been very helpful :flowerforyou:0

just pick one workout and stick with it. P90X will give you results, I am sure the other one too, but I speak for p90x.

Don't look at today as a skipped day - you DID workout, and you didn't exactly do one that's easy! I love that Jillian DVD, but I can tell you from experience that trying to do two high intensity cardio workouts in the same day can cause problems, especially if you're just starting out. Injuries are no fun.
Hang in there, and push play tomorrow!
