Every day: What do you add to your meals?

I have heard of people adding protein shakes, slimfast drinks, protein bars, "luna" bars?, and other supplements.
I don't know anything about any of those things and I would love it if someone could explain it to me. Why do you do it? What do you do? Have you noticed a difference?

    i added a protein shake every day just so i can get those extra 52 grams of protein because i workout and am trying to build muscle but they also work nice as meal replacements low calories and they keep you full

    I add protein shakes and or bars because I am very busy (shifts are erratic at work and I don't always have time to pre prepare meals) and also I find it hard to eat my full protein quota (I aim for 120g per day) with proper food alone. I find it easier on my stomach to go with the bars and the shakes (30 - 40g a throw each). For the same amount of protein I need to shoot for a whole can of pilchards and the like, ugh! Oh, I am lifting heavy 3 times a week and trying to lose fat and grow muscle.
