Leptin is a hormone we produce naturally during sleep that controls our appetite and metabolism.. However I see Leptin Supplements advertised on the net and wondered if they are safe or effective.. thoughts?

I'm not aware of any supplements that can effectively alter Leptin to a significant degree. Now this doesn't mean that they don't exist, but my bullsh*t detector immediately fired off when you mentioned this.0

As per my knowledge, Leptin is harmone that acts on receptors in the hypothalamus of the brain where it inhibits appetite by (1) counteracting the effects of neuropeptide Y (a potent feeding stimulant secreted by cells in the gut and in the hypothalamus); (2) counteracting the effects of anandamide (another potent feeding stimulant that binds to the same receptors as THC, the active ingredient of marijuana); and (3) promoting the synthesis of α-MSH, an appetite suppressant.0

This is a hormone that likely isn't deficient in many folks. It's more a matter of being leptin resistant. Taking more leptin (if that's possible in a supplement) isn't going to fix that problem, just add to it.0

bumping just because I'm curious? I can't imagine it would be very smart as most are not deficient so taking it would create a surplus, which (I'm not sure if harmful), but isn't necessarily good.0
