Not happy with where I am, need help!

Last November I began working out like crazy, beginning at 18 years old and 212 pounds. I was not happy with myself and planned to lose 50 pounds by June, which I did. Here it is December and I've lost a little over 70 pounds. I currently weigh 138 and while I'm content with my progress, I have an awful looking tummy left which I cannot seem to lose. The rest of my body looks healthy and toned but my tummy is still large and hangs over, and looks totally out of place!

Is this normal for this weight?

Are there any specific diets or work outs that would help this condition? I'm very active in cardio work outs and strength training, and while they've been a big help on the weight loss, I'm doing something wrong or lacking something to get rid of this stubborn area.

Thanks :)

I haven't personally lost that much weight or had to deal with this, but I roam around a lot of weight loss sites and have seen girls posting their concerns about it. The general consensus is that it takes time. Your skin will catch up, but you have to be patient. Maybe focus more on strength training, though?

Great job on losing all of that weight! Your progress is awesome! You just need to keep up with working out, and strength training will help you immensely!! Get those abs going and that skin will tighten. Focus on your abs but also your back, when the skin and muscles are tight all around that skin will become tight as well :)

well no expert at all but id say its because theres less area for you to store fat so it probably centered around your stomach my advice would be to try weight lifting more and cardio less to burn more fat and build muscle since you cannot target weight loss you just have to burn as much fat as possible and the best way is to build muscle

Are you talking about loose skin due to the weight loss?

A picture will help a lot.

Do this: Grab a hold of what ever is left. Is it thicker than maybe a couple of sheets of paper? If so, it's still full of fat.

The unfortunate thing in the weight loss process is that we can't control were the fat comes off. That may be the last spot. The only way to eventually get the fat to go away is to burn it off. That means more diet.

It definitely isn't loose skin, otherwise it would be easier to pinch. Just fat!

you haven't been working out long enough to tighten everything up. My stomach is now shrinking (finally) and I've been at it almost 2 years.

Awesome job on your weight loss!!! Can you detail your work out schedule a little bit more? How long cardio session? What type of strength training in particular and approx how much weight?

Everybody loses differently and you can't spot reduce but when I started really focusing in on strength training, calisthenics, body weight exercises and Hiit's I finally started to see a reduction in my mid section. Check out the strong lifts 5x% work outs or the 'new rules of lifting for women'. It may help you hone in on what you need to do to see those changes!
  • Some people say compression garments can help encourage loose tissue to tighten up. Youth and time are the most effective remedies, though. It takes things a while to settle down after a big change.

Congratulations on your achievement! Keep up the good work.
