Question for people who run and cycle... When I ride my heart rate runs on average around 155 to 160 and when I run around 170. Is it normal for cyclists to have a higher average when running than cycling?

Well, there's no gears or coasting in running.0

Depends on the intensity. On a bike, you can coast, whereas with running, it's all in putting one foot in front of the other so it seems logical that it would expend more energy.0

It depends on the exertion level on each. My MTB rides are a lot more intense than my average run so I end up with a higher average heart rate. But if I am pushing the pace on my run it will be higher.0

I don't do a lot of coasting unless riding in the mountains and then I have a higher heart rate on the climbs to balance. On the flats my rides usually run around 19.5 average and I don't coast but still end up with around a 160 - just wondering why the rate is so much higher on average on a run.0

That sounds about right. Running is a bit more intense than cycling.0
