multiple options of same food choice w/ different calorie

WTH? I want to be able to pick Steamed White Rice, I get like 10 choices all varying fro 160-400 calories per cup. HOLY cR...
How do make a selection. So according to the database home made steamed rice has about 400 calories (1 cup) but chinese take out white rice has about 200 calories. Really, really?

Cups are a measure of volume, calories are by weight. The variety of rice may be relevant basmati does not behave the same as short grain, rice steamed longer or not drained properly will absorb more water so change the calories both in terms of volume and weight, different people pack the cup more or less. If you want to be accurate weigh your dry rice and add that.

Also additives like butter, cheese, or other flavorings like that maybe included.

Also w. regard to the take out portions, the 200 cals are probably about 2-3 spoonfuls. The best/least likely to result in an error way to do it would be to weigh the rice and create a calorie entry to use when you have rice xx

When was that cup measured? When it was dry, or when it was steamed ? Huge difference too :-)
Always weigh your rice/pasta/... and take the calories from that. Very easy, and always right.
