60 days logged

Today is my 60th day on MFP, eating 1200 calories a day. I have only lost around 4 pounds (on a good day, 2 pounds on a normal day)...WTF. I'm losing motivation soo quickly. WHY isn't this happening for me!?!?! I just want to give up. I feel like I'll be fat forever :grumble:

Don't give up. Try upping your calories. Have you calculated your BMR and TDEE? You may be eating too little...sounds weird but it is possible.

Open your diary and it takes more than 60 days. Keep at it!

    1. You only have 20lbs to lose, which isn't really that much, so you are going to lose them slower than 1lb a week, sorry.
    2. 1200 calories is probably too low for your body/height/weight loss goal, try chaning your goal to .5/lb a week.
    3. Weight loss isn't linear, and you've only been on for 2 months and lost 4 lbs, which is a good steady .5/lb a week.
    4. Try adding weight training to your routine.
    5. Are you sure you are accurately recording what you are eating.....with such a low calorie count, even a small error can make a difference.

your ticker on your profile says that you only have 18 pounds to go. people that have less to lose, lose slower.

also, i think that you are eating way too little at 1200 calories.

    http://www.quickbmr.com/what-is-tdee.html

go here to find out your tdee (total daily energy expenditure) and that'll help you find your BMR (basal metobolic rate). BMR is what you would need to consume, at MINIMUM, if your body were just laying in bed all day.

you should be eating in between you TDEE and BMR. unfortunatly some people get confused and eat below their BMR, which causes their weight loss to suffer.

so what kind of results are you looking for? i mean, judging from you avatar picture, you do not need to lose much (any) weight. are you looking to build some muscle?

have you heard about staci?? http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/07/21/meet-staci-your-new-powerlifting-super-hero/

on the left she is 131lbs, on the right she is actually heavier at 142lbs,.

In between my BMR & TDEE is about 2,100 calories. WHAT...that seems so high! I don't even think I COULD eat that much.

since you are trying to lose weight, take your TDEE at lightly active, and subtract 20% from it. eat that on normal days, and add your daily exercise calories and don't be afraid to eat them.

your body works more on a week-to-week basis, not day to day, so lets say you work out and burn 300 calories on monday, but you're just not that hungry and can't eat more then 1600 calories that day. but tuesday you don't work out but you're extra hungry so you 'go over' by 150 calories, and the same on wednesday. after all is said and done, you are still breaking even and eating at a deficit.

upping your calories is something that takes time. slowly increase by eating an extra 100-200 daily calories a week over the course of a month. try and avoid the scale for a while, as while you are upping your calories, you may fluctuate.

but if you aren't doing strength training, you should be.

Thanks for all the info. I am going to up my calories by a little right now.

Do you have any basic strength training tips to share? I am currently not doing anything in that realm.
