Winter hunger?

The temperature has lowered below zero here. And nowadays I'm hungry much more often.
Is this just because of the light intensitie which has lowered, because of which everyone has a kind of dip, because of which you want to eat more or does your body really need more energy?

Your body burns more calories when it has to try and keep you warm. Also I think it's just a natural instinct of our bodies to pack on fat to try and keep us warm for the winter. Just some leftover instincts from when we were hunter-gatherers.

I'm having the same issue here. It sucks! And, I want to drink less and less water...

I have this problem too and I agree it's from caveman times. I try to space my eating out a little better and eat more protein to try to make me feel full longer. This way I'm not necessarily eating any more calories but my body feels like it's getting more food. Some days if I shiver enough, I allow myself some extra calories because maybe I need it anyway (I'm not as serious about counting as some people on here). Hope this helps! At least you know you aren't alone?

You're definitely not alone. And it doesn't help that there is food everywhere you look this time of year. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I started recently to warm me up, especially in the morning. And oatmeal, hot soup and other filling hot foods.

I find drinking a lot of hot liquids helps this time of year - it warms me up, which is what my body is really trying to do anyway. I drink green teas (with nothing added), so the calories are almost non-existent. Totally worth trying!

Eat more thick or chunky vegetable soups - use low glycemic index beans, lentils and barley rather than potatoes. You can make really easy ones using frozen or canned vegetables. There is evidence that those with Seasonal Affective Disorder crave carbs in winter; since mental health issues are a continuum rather than a black and white split it's likely many people get this 'symptom' to a greater or lesser extent.
