Calculating my calorie deficit--is this right?

I am taking my BMR adding on my exercise calorie burned and then subtracting the calories I ate. This should give me my calorie deficit for the day? When the deficit reaches 3500 I should have lost a pound--right?

No. You need to deduct from your TDEE, not just your BMR + exercise. You burn calories through your day to day activities too.

So I add my exercise calories to my TDEE and then subtract calories eaten? That gives me my calorie deficit? (Hate to sound dense)0 -

The road map is complicated.
Go to www.fitnessfrog.com and go to the TDEE calculator. Then deduct about 15% from that for your deficit. Never eat back your exercise cals using this method.
The roadmap is good, but you need to understand how it works. With the roadmap, you calculate your TDEE at your goal weight maintenance and then just eat at that level for the rest of your life. It's cool, but the way he describes it is really complicated. I understand this stuff really well, and got pretty confused reading through it.0
