Applebee's

So my daughter won her basketball game today and is in the champioship game tomorrow. On the way home my husband suggested we go out for lunch -- in quickly scanning the plethera of fast foods joints located within an arms reach of where we were standing I made the decision to go to Applebee's. I remembered their commercial for the 550 calorie menu and thought that I mind as well make a good choice.
We went I ate and I felt good about it. We had ordered a spinach artichoke appetizer (my downfall) but I only had about 6 chips and I dipped half in salsa and did enjoya bit of the dip but I didnt overdo. I drank water and I got one of the 550 meals.
So, Im home now and trying to figure out the damage as well as what I can have for dinner this evening....
Im frsutrated at the lack of nutrional values that applebees gives...sure they tell me that the meal is 550 calories but there is NO breakdown of fats, carbs or sodium! Anywhere! There website tells you flat out that they dont publish that stuff....so Im winging it on the appetizer and I guess Im going to have to just go by calories today rather then know my numbers. I would rathter go to a different restaurant where the calorie count may be a bit higher but all the info is out there in the future.

Use the MFP web site and when you add food to your lunch diary do a search on Applebee's. Their whole menu is on MFP. Sometimes before I enter a restaurant (or waiting to get seated) I use MFP and enter in the restaurant name and can choose my meal from my iPhone before I meet the server. That way I know exactly where I stand and it helps pass the time as well. Good luck!
  • Just curious: How did someone here figure these out, since Applebee's doesn't provide the information?

I did see those when I was doing my food diary just now...but they are calories only still no carbs/proteins/sodium etc...at least for my choices I didnt look at all of them. Well, calories is better then nothing!

Ok, here's my thought on it (doesn't mean I know what I'm talking about, but I sure can BS with the best of them! ). Maybe if one of the cooks at Applebee's joined MFP, and then enterred the information from the supplies they used to make the meals.

Ok, so not very probable, but it could be possible!

Oh, did I mention that I can really tick DH off because of my ability to come up with possible, but not necessarily probable senerios? HEHEHE There's a reason I was in debate!

And now, back to your normal programming!

In some states, like here in California and I think NY any restaurant that has more then some number (I think) within the state or a certain mile ratus they have to offer the calories, sat fat, carbs and sodium (I'm not sure if it's sat. fat or trans fat). When I go out to places like that I write it down and bring it home with me. If I were going tonight I would get it for you, but I'm not. I also often use the Chili's nutritional facts for those type of restaurant. They have a very complete list in a PDF form on their site. I figure that's closer then I would guess.
By the way, GREAT job making a good choice!

That's what I was going to add- certain states, New York for example, have a law that restaurants that meet a certain criteria (a certain number of locations, or something like that) MUST disclose nutrition info. So, even if a restaurant in another state doesn't list it, if you spend enough time searching on the internet, sometimes you can find the info. (from another state). That's how I found the nutrition date for Cheesecake Factory!
