Alternatives to Lifting

Are there alternatives to weight lifting? I have restrictions on my activities, not supposed to lift over 20 lbs, can't look down for a lengthy period of time among some others. During the summer I was able to do some resistance stuff in the pool and lost weight very fast. Cardio seems to be so much slower. Anything I can do in the non-pool months to help? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
