water weight?

so on monday i kind of binged on pizza and ice cream. tuesday i started drinking about 2 liters and then some of water because i realized it really helps me not crave bad foods i normally would. i'm doing this every day (hoping to make it a habit again) and i walk for 1 hour a day also. thursday i weighed myself and i was 116.6 and then today i weighed myself and i was 122lbs(weighed myself again after dinner and walking and was 125 though) i'm stressing because i don't know whether i was dehydrated all this time or it's just water weight because i've been floating around 116/118 the past few weeks. how long can it take for the water to go down to normal? and i know i shouldn't weigh myself every day but i can't help myself at all. :embarassed:

It's probably bloat and water weight, at least that's what I usually blame it on after eating excess calories. Don't bother weighing yourself at the end of the day, because that's when you'll be your 'heaviest'.
Keep drinking your water and eventually your weight will go back to where it was as long as you are sticking within your calorie goals and keeping the sodium down.

If you're going to weigh daily, do it at the same time every day - first thing in the morning after you use the bathroom, wearing the same thing (jammies) or nothing. And be prepared to see weight changes up and down on a daily basis. If this will frustrate you, then better to only weight yourself once a week or ever two weeks.

I'm a daily weigher just out of habit, and I am fascinated with the daily fluctuations, and I don't let them bother me. In the past three days I've been up and down two pounds, but it's not a big deal - I know I didn't gain two pounds of fat in two days, or lose them again either. It's just water weight and normal fluctuations in the body.

New or hard exercise can cause the body to retain water to heal the muscles and show a gain, or not drinking enough the day before, eating a lot of sodium, and monthly hormone changes can show up as a gain on the scale, but it's just a normal fluctuation.

Don't rely on the scale too much - it lies. Grab a tape measure and record your measurements - much better way to see your progress.
  • thanks for your responses guys! my weight went back down to normal this morning. wee. and i know what you mean about being fascinated by the fluctuations. and i know not to rely too much on the scale, but at the same time when i weigh myself often i feel like i can make sure i really am eating okay and exercising enough and that a few bites of ice cream aren't doing too much damage as long as the scale isn't rising too high. haha.
