Hi,
I am new to this site...my wonderful daughter told me to check it out and so I did...and here I am. Signed up, ready to go, just don't really know where to start, any suggestions? Do I start out with trying to figure out what foods to eat to get me pointed in the right direction, the excercising?

Welcome! the best advice I can give you is to just eat like you normally do for now. You will see how many calories a day you are using up from your daily allowance. Once you see that then you can adjust what you eat and how much you eat each day. you will find it won't take long once you see your calories go down quickly! Excercise is the key though. it allows you to eat more and helps speed up the weight loss as well. When I started I found that I was eating way to much in the morning and lunch. left no room for dinner from my daily calorie allowance. So I cut back on both, and now I can have the dinner that I want without going over your totals. If your hungry eat, but KEEP YOUR TOTALS LOGGED. that's the only way to know how your doing.
