Are you using the Nike app? or a nike watch/band? I do not believe there is a HR monitor that you can use with the app, but if you are using the watch/band the Polar HR monitor is the one that works with Nike. I can't say I would personally recommend it, as I have had issues with it (out running and sometimes it drops off and says I don't have a heart rate) which of course messes up the whole run (for avg. heartrate) but I do have a friend who has it, who has not had problems..

I use the nike running app. I find it really motivating and it seems quite accurate.

You have a few options. Only the Polar H7 chest strap works with iPhone (and only 4S or 5 models). It uses the new low energy bluetooth standard (BTLE or Bluetooth 4.0). Other straps will not work with iPhone. Retails for $80 but can find it on Amazon for $56.

I don't really see the need for one integrated app (and the purchase of a 2nd chest strap), so I just use the Nike+ chip in my shoes (the iPhone operating system supports it - no app required) for distance/pace (and it's free). My Polar watch tracks the HR info. Runkeeper, or a similar app, will track GPS/route info if desired (and it's free).

The Nike+ chip uses your cadence/stride to measure distance and doesn't drain power. It's also good for the treadmill, where GPS is useless. You can manually enter distance, etc. into Runkeeper.

The disadvantage to this approach is you have look at 2 different websites if you want to trend all the data. You'll have to decide if one-stop shopping is worth the extra money.
