Beginner with Weights

I am not very good at exercising and I mostly do cardio and 30DS anyway, but from my "research" on here I am getting more and more interested in lifting weights.
I am so weak haha and I want that to change.
I have a set of 3lb and 5lb weights for use during my 30DS... and there is some sort of weight contraption at my condo's gym... but I dont know how to use it or where to start or even what would be best to do...
If anyone could give me a point towards a good beginner's "tutorial" or any tips, i would be very grateful!

Check your local library or bookstore for a book titled "The New Rules Of Lifting For Women" - great book and a lot of gals here following the program with great results. There's an MFP group here if you want to check it out or ask questions: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/102-new-rules-of-lifting-for-women-nrol4w0

Check out starting strength or stronglifts 5x5. You would need access to free weights though,0
