Lulabelle: How you able to squeeze to men into your life and equally date both? I bet your son, enjoy going out with his mom, of course until he gets older and think it's uncool.

Aisser: Having the rootbeer float with your brother after a tragic incident is understandable.

For me, after my cornbread slip up, I have 3 successful night. Last night I had Chinese tofu and veggies, and only ate about 1/4 of the white rice, and half of the soda, and still ate 4 cookies (really slow) and somehow did not even start to eat my workout calories. Sometimes it is crazy how you can feel like you ate hearty all day and when you look at the calories, its below 1100! I was forced to eat the cookies I tell you! Tonight I think will be my splurge night and have Philippine food. I treated myself to a massage today and then found this great store that had clothes sent from the United States and still had US prices! I brought me some clothes that I would not have brought 24 lbs ago.

    Happy Friday to all. :drinker:
  • I need to work on this idea. I work night shift and I'm only hungry at night. Eating helps one stay awake, plus there is a McDonald's here that is open about 24/7. I started bringing apples and oranges besides dinner food, which is a bit helpful.
Then when I'm off and awake in the daytime I'm not hungry till about 3pm.

Tonight isn't the greatest since the unit I'm in tonight always has a candy bowl out. I think I'll stop at the gym on the way home, walk on the treadmill etc before I go to bed about 9am.

Usually my strategy is if I'm tired I sleep and if I'm hungry I eat. Usually sleep wins out because there is only limited time available to sleep whereas one can usually eat about anytime.

    Night shift people?

teetee, my baby is almost eight and guess where he chooses to go to dinner? HOOTERS!!!! He loves the snow crab legs. I try and inform him other places have them, but he always picks Hooters. He did mention that the waitresses outfits were "weird" and his daughters were never wearing them and if he had any say in it, neither was his mommy because their stomachs were showing and you could see the butts. But (and I quote) "at least they have good food". I asked him if he thought there were more men, women, or children there (there were families). He said "men". When I asked him why, he said he had no idea (I love his innocence!) I asked him if he would still bring me when he was 16. He said "sure, and I can drive by then". I can't wait to repeat this conversation to him then. Great job on ONLY 4 cookies. Such self-control. And on the Chinese eating. I swear there's something in there that makes you just want to keep eating it.

Aisser - hope your brother is doing better.

Zaza - i bet we can burn calories just watching the Olympics. I know I tighten up my legs and stomach just watching them do their daring moves.

Dewdrop - good job on the NO JUNK eating. Keep it going.

    Good morning-
I was very tempted to snack last night around 10:30 (watching the Olympics made me hungry:laugh: ), but I just kept thinking about this challenge and didn't want to have to confess. So, I stayed out of the ktichen.

I am hoping to make tonight Day 4. It's a girls' night out and will be a later night than usual so I have my 11:30 cut-off (I hope I remember)
    Good luck everyone w/the week-end.

Last night went according to plan .

Rosemary: Try chewing gum. There are some kinds that have less than 5 calories, and the movement of your jaw can trick you mind that you might be eating something. I've never been a night shift worker, besides standing watch sometimes, but that is normally with other people, so I was able to chat to help past the time.

Lulabelle: Your post made me laugh. Children are always innocent.

4 successful nights! And only had 2 cookies, for some reason, my temptation to eat them are not there. But I am not mad! Not one bit.
  • teetee1281 Thanks for the gum idea. I'll get some on the way home this morning. I guess the day starts at midnight. What I ate before midnight went on the day before.
I think it's going to help to do the food recording and exercise recording. It's nice how this site analyzes it all out for you.
  • lulabelle, You are right about the Chinese food having something in it that makes you want it. They are glutamates. A popular one is monosodium glutamate. This substance acts like a hormone in your body. The hormone that tells your brain it is full, the glutamates turn it off. Then the hormone that tells you that you are hungry, the glutamates make it stay on. Researchers give these substances to lab rats to fatten them up for obesity studies. They tell your brain that the food your eating tastes good and it makes you eat faster. Almost all prepared foods are laced with these kinds of substances. Another popular one is maltodextrin. Never eat anything with maltodextrin in it. Another one is soy protein isolate. Sometimes they're called "natural flavoring". There are natural glutamates in food that are not dangerous. For example asparagus naturally has it. It's when they isolate it and process it under heat that bad things happen. It's acts as a flavor enhancer. The next time you get the munchies read your food labels for what you ate that day. It'll probably have one or more of these items listed in the list of ingredients. Food companies are allowed to put these substances in food. And they are glad to. It helps them sell their product because people become almost addicted to their brand/food.

What I always say is "if it's not food, don't eat it". If we lived in a perfect world that would be possible. Sometimes you don't have much choice over your food. Time constraints from home, work, families and etc. make it difficult.

12 nights, but went to bed too full and sick feeling on my stomach. Going to eat more of my calories earlier in the day today.

rosemary, what an informative post :flowerforyou:. Thanks so much!
teetee, thanks for the idea of using honey instead of jelly on the pb sandwiches. It's just as yummy and healthier.
    lulabelle, well done! :flowerforyou:

Dunno what to do, I ate super healthy for dinner, but finished at 9 (I said I'd go for 8:30 this week). I feel like I'm making too many exceptions. :ohwell: (I need a smiley for "scratching head" )

    dewdrop - does this work?
    scratch-head03.gif

What time did you go to bed? If it wasn't until after 11, you are probably good. My problem? I finished eating at 8:45, and then went to bed by 9:15 and felt absolutely sick and gross. I need to readjust my family and get us eating earlier for all of our sakes.

    Have a great weekend!

When I eat my chicken I look it up on the data base as roasted and it says 4 oz. I'm assuming that means 4 oz after it's cooked. I never saw anything that said you should weigh it frozen.

Midnight :blushing: . So yes, I am good (I ate light, also), but I said on Mo that I'm going for 8:30 scratch-head03.gif So on personal level, I'm good, but here in public?

I do agree with you that it's best to leave at least an hour for the stomach to do its job before you put your body to rest  - o/w, you'll notice that you have more dreams/nightmares, so the quality of your sleep is affected. I am trying to limit my water intake prior going to bed, too. On the other hand, you have a special schedule, so that's not an easy compromise to make - I mean adjusting dinner time so that it fits everyone.

Have a nice weekend, too :flowerforyou:.

    lulabellewoowoo, Congrats on 12 nights!
I'm happy to report I've made it thru 4 nights. I cut it close last night. My cut-off was 11;30 since I had a girls' night out and managed to take my last sip of coke (I know, not a great choice but I was SO thirsty) at 11:29. The bad news is that I went so far over calories at dinner that I didn't even bother to count. :ohwell: But I did enjoy every mouthful.
Today is a new day and I'm going to make more of an effort and am going to my Zumba class, which shoud work off some of last night's damage.
    Have a good week-end everyone.

I'm for 5 nights in a row now. Last night was left over Phillipino food, I counted it the same way I did the first day, but I didn't eat any rice with it. I also had 1 serving of thin mints. I am sticking to what I said, I only eat them from my workout calories and I have eaten all of them in moderation. It was funny because when I look at them in the cabinet, I was shocked:noway: that I only ate 6 cookies (Samoas) in the past 5 days. All together, I only ate 10. The other 4 were the thin mints I had last night. Who in their right mind counts how many cookies they ate! I am so proud of the dicipline I have all of sudden.:flowerforyou: Where was it all the other years? :grumble:

Zaza: When I go to Zumba I normally burn about 600-650 calories. Have fun! I go this evening.

Dewdrop: I don't think it was me who said use honey instead of jelly. I eat a teaspoon of honey when I have a killer sweet tooth. I still use jelly for my PB&J sandwiches. For the longest, I wouldn't use grape, I like apple better.
  • OK being that it is Sunday I will try to join the "NO LATE NIGHT SNACKING CLUB". My only problem is that I work mixed shifts at work either 2p-10p (like tonight) or 7:30a-3:30p ( which I do tomorrow). When I work the night shifts I tend to sleep later in the morning getting up between 9:30 and 10a, so after coffee I tend to eat breakfast around 11:30. Because I have to be at work for 2p I find it hard to get another meal in before then so usually it's a snack like oatmeal. Then another snack around 5, dinner at 6/6:30. By this time I feel i am eating everything in an 8 hr period because I want that last snack in before 8pm. Since I work in retail I find it hard to really time my eating consistently. Last Wednesday it was so busy I never even had enough time to eat dinner, so when I got home at almost 11pm I was starving. Mind you I also go to bed at 2am when I work nights. I need help here. I try to just have SpecialK dry at this time, but I feel I have been stagnant in my weight loss because of this. I know I need to make the time to eat but it's hard being a retail manager when I don't get a punch out sit down and eat break when working nights. I eat in between tasks and customer service calls. Maybe having this new goal will help but I also need to make sure I get my base calories in everyday (1200).
  • sportsqueen--You sound like me with the wierd shift work and consequently an unscheduled life. You must be doing something right though with 21 lbs lost! I think it was teetee that suggested I chew gum to make my mouth feel like it's eating. I may try that but gum usually makes me feel a bit nauseated after awhile. That started after I had braces as a kid and couldn't chew gum for a few years. But it might be helpful for you. I just give up on trying to eat a set number of meals a day. If I'm tired I sleep if I'm hungry I eat. Usually sleep wins out since you can put off eating and do that later. How about some healthy snacks to take the place of a meal. We are at work for twelve hours and if it's too busy to eat then grazing or grabbing a snack while walking some where can tide you over. I put some nuts in a bag and stick them in my pocket, or dates or some little thing. It's helpful to not get to the point where your starving. All these little things add up though. Maybe not more than 400 calories every 4 hours is a decent maintance intake rate. It takes some planning though. It's easy for me to get trapped into eating whatever people have setting out. One unit always has a candy bowl. Sometimes there's a cake or brownies. If I take my stuff to graze on it's easier to skip theirs. Think of the extra exercise your getting. Some of our assignments are called "Jenny Craig" assignments. Since I usually work nights 7p-7:30a I'm not usually hungry in the daytime when I'm off. Then I get hungry at night and even though I'm not working I end up staying up until 2a.
I like this site because it keeps track of calories so easily for you. I think it's going to really help me. It seems like a strange world though were everyone has it set in their heads that they aren't going to eat past a set time every night. Really wierd
  • sportsqueen - Sorry bout the second post when I put in the first one it copied twice. How I don't know. So I tried to erase it but you can't have an empy post. So I gotta think of something else to say.

Let's call it no anytime "junk" snacking.

Well, was sick this weekend. Body aches, fever, congestion. So I ate when my body needed to and didn't pay attention to the clock yesterday. So I ate late and I ate heavy. But I'm okay with it and will start fresh again today on Monday.

    Night shift people?

I just moved off of graveyard shift (midnight to 8am) after 18 months and 20 pounds! Towards the end of my stint on that shift, I finally figured out that for me, it was best to go directly to the gym from work. By the time I got home and showered, I was too darn tired to do much but fall into bed! If I wasn't going to the gym for some reason, I would eat "dinner" as soon as I got home, then go to bed around 2pm. I did most all of my eating at work regardless. It was HARD!! (Thus, the 20 lbs gained!) Just don't go to McD's - soooo bad for you - sounds like you have the healthy snacks thing down anyway. Best of luck to you - hang in there night-owl!

Just checking in... Doing really good!!!!!!!!! Still haven't slipped and eaten after 7 pm That is 11 days straight!!!!!....
  • Veg You are right! The McDonalds thing is not good. I've tried to not bring money to work and I think it has broken me of the McD's habit. So I just bring my food. It seems better but often now I bring tooo much food. I think I'm afraid I'll be without. My work environment is high stress and fast paced and food seems to be a "comfort" source. I need to figure out a better emotional replentisher. Any ideas?

    Hey all,
Thanks for the link to this thread.
Our dinner is over @18.00. Boys in bed @19.30.
I sit to watch soaps and before I changed my eating habits I'd think nothing to sitting and eating up to 3 bags of crisps and some chocolate after that.
Sice I've lost weight I've bought healty snacks, as I just cant seem to break the habit of having to have something in the evenings. Though having said that, it's not EVEERY evening.
