Any suggestions on where I should go to get a set of weights and a bench? Somehow I'm drawing a blank on any ideas.

I got a very reasonably priced set of dumbbells (new) from a vendor on Ebay, and they included free p&p.0

Well there's a bench & 30 kg set in argos for £49.99. That ought to get me started, and there's a set of over 100kg weights being sold locally on ebay that's looking pretty cheap right now, so I guess that'll see me through until I need some heavy duty kit.0

Weights for what?
There must be loads in Leeds.
Go and check out some kit at a large specialist shop, get an idea for what you want then check out the second hand market.0 -

I suspect someone may be arranging a bench & weights for me for Xmas though, as my wife has just told me not to buy anything until then. Slightly frustrating that I have to hold off for 2 weeks before starting though.0 -
Wait for Santa!!!
Edited to add..you can do lots of body weight stuff while you wait..push ups etc0 -
Just work on your handstand press ups, planche press ups, one-armed pull ups and dragon flags until then.
You can also push your wife up hills in the car for a more strength and conditioning based workout.0 -
Trouble with eBay is the price of postage and so a lot of sellers are collect only. Have you tied gum tree which you can each locally. You can also set up an alert if new stuff comes up0

Strengthshop.co.uk
powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/. ( many reports of bad customer service however )0 -
I've just ordered a set from fitness-superstore.co.uk Good range and prices.
I've also placed an order with powerhouse-fitness.co.uk One small hitch with them so far - they needed me to send proof of my billing address on a credit card statement before they would process my order because I was having it delivered to a different address. I've never needed to do that when ordering from anyone else. However they said they would accept a photo of the statement emailed from my phone so I'mnow waiting to see if they complete my order tomorrow.0 -
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll remember them for after Xmas.
Didn't get the set of weights from eBay, so I'll be looking for some additional weights in a few months anyway.0 -

If they are the extreme end of bodyweight exercises and there are a whole load of incremental exercises between those and the humble push-up and inverted rows - does it not illustrate that you don't actually need weights to build a fine physique?
Regarding the wife thing - a bit sexist innit? Having said that, I do get the wife to help me out with Donkey Calf Raises. Quite fun!
Not bashing weightlifters; just tipping my cap to an alternative.0 -
