How to start heavy lifting

Hello,
Can anyone offer some advice on how to start heavy lifting? I have never been one to lift weights and have stuck to cardio mainly however, I recently started a bootcamp and it's main focus is on strength not cardio. This has sparked an interest for me in lifting.
Any advice you could all give me on how to start off would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

Bump.
I asked a question similar to this not long ago. Someone suggested when first starting out to start with bodyweight exercises and then when those start to get easier, then add weight. This way we can build up our strength and I would think that we would be less suseptable to injury this way. I found this list to be pretty thorough.

here is a great article to read. it's completely free. takes you through a full body workout to day split training getting you ready for super-sets. if nothing else you will learn a lot.

I was searching the internet last night for a website that actually gave the info on how to get started and how many reps/sets, etc. This is the one I think I'm going to try to start with. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/berardi13.htm I liked it because it actually has a suggested rotation and the article talks about how to properly do each exercise.0

i've been doing body pump for ages and kind of gone as heavy as i can with it, but it's given me the confidence to lift stuff and to have good form and know the moves. So thru MFP have discovered NRL4W and really enjoying it...so moved out of the studio and into the free weights section:)0

It has taken me 10 months to get to where I am now....
I started with a few of the machines at the gym. Once I was comfortable with what I was doing, I would add another machine.
Then I took a free class on the cable machines.
then I saw a lady using the plate loaded leg press. I told her how awesome she was and that I wanted to do it one day...so she showed me how!
Then I decided I wanted to squat...so I asked the trainer to watch my form to make sure I was doing it right.
Then I started having issues with one of the cable machines due to my height, so the trainer showed me alternate exercises with dumbbells.
I have been thinking about doing deadlifts, so I researched it in print and watched youtube videos, then asked the trainer to help me today
If you have the cash, it would not hurt at all to hire a trainer for a few sessions to show you how to do things and make sure your form is right.0 -
