There is so much your body needs and so much it doesn't need. Of course your body does not need excess calories, fat grams, sodium, etc as we're trying to maintain or achieve our weight goals, but your body does not need all the excess preservatives found in loads of our American production of foods.

I wasn't this huge fanatic of organic foods, but the more I learn and the more I understand, the more I find myself shopping mainly in produce sections, reaching for everything that says, "natural, organic, or no preservatives".

One thing I like to look at is the "cycle of life". We understand life gets better as we get older... well in regards to wisdom and understanding. If you appreciate all that you've experienced and what you've learned from those experiences, you develop a better attitude and love for the things around you. Food is the same way. It takes time and patience for food to develop over the cycles it needs to provide the nutrients our bodies need to function at maximum potential. With mass marketing and corporate greed, we are bombarded with foods that are no longer "food"... they have a minimum of what we need and then are saturated with loads of chemicals and additives our bodies cannot really process.

I'm starting this topic so people can add to the huge benefits of eating organic or supporting local farmers in your area! If this doesn't interest you, perhaps take a look at our struggling economy of which depends on huge corporations to provide jobs and food for our country and ultimately has affected our leading nations. If we returned to a food system that supported communities where we traded in regions like pods, our foods would be healthier, our food economies in cities would depend more on a localized community, and this would provide more stable jobs for our people.

There's so many benefits in taking a first look at what we eat and how we can make it better for not only our present situation, but for the future of humanity.

I recently saw Food Inc. and must admit it was life changing. I thought I was mindful and realize I have a lot to learn, and through our choices we can make changes and improvements in every aspect of our lives.

I too just watched Food Inc. Prior to watching the film I knew about the corn industry and had already stopped buying 95% of boxed food, etc. What got me is the meat. I now go to a local butcher shop who only has organic/all natural/antibiotic free meat. I don't want ammonia washed meat or chlorine washed meat. I was horrified by that.

I also thought it was interesting how far $1 can go for a family in the boxed aisle versus fresh veggie area. Needless to say I no longer judge people in the grocery store on limited budgets who buy predominantly boxed foods. It is sad though. Everyone should be able to afford to eat healthy.

I totally understand about the produce section costing more than regular foods and it's good foods that we don't have to process into a box or can, but yet it costs more money??? Outrageous! God gave us plenty of fruits and veggies to eat for a reason!
  • ...not to mention the strain that the health care system feels because of the years and years of unhealthy processed chemicals that we have all put into our bodies....
