Disclaimer: My doctor is calling me tomorrow with more information once she looks more closely at my blood work, but I'm just nervous and wondered if anyone on the boards could give me a little peace of mind in the meantime.
I had blood taken a few weeks ago, and my TSH came back as 4.9, which, depending on any scale, is fairly high. Four weeks later my blood tests have come back again, and it's increased to 7.6, which is definitely high. They're either going to put me on meds or send me to a specialist. Is anyone else on medication for a hypoactive thyroid? Did anyone else's TSH levels increase dramatically in such a short time? Any feedback you can give me would be helpful, maybe of what they put you on and if you saw any difference in the way you felt?
Thanks in advance!

I have hypothroidism. It was a lot of trials before I got the right does of synthroid. First got a does 50mcg and it wasn't enough, upped to 100mcg and it was too high-got sent to an endocrynologist. Best thing ever. Not only did I realize that the generic brand (levothyroxin) is cheaper, but they don't exactly put accurate amounts in each dose-so my levels were all over the place until I switched to the name brand (syntheroid). I finally feel better, the weight isn't stubborn anymore and I have more energy. Good luck!0

I have problems with my thyroid since I had my son almost 2 years ago. Apparently this is fairly common in women during pregnancy and after childbirth. I was moody, tired, cold, starving, depressed and not very fun. I developed a large goiter with several nodules on my thyroid gland. With post-partum thyroiditis they won't put you on meds for a year because your hormones fluctuate so much. I just had surgery to have my thyroid removed 2 months ago so they are still trying to get my dosage right. At the moment I am on 100mc but they think its too low as my energy is still not back to normal. Plus I have been going to the gym about 4-5 times a week to try and shed this extra weight I've put on (I weigh as much now as I did when I was 9 months pregnant). I am hoping that when they up the meds i'll get a little boost I need. If you do need meds, its really not a big deal: one tiny pill whenever is best for you. Hopefully everything works out for you!0

Thanks for the feedback, guys. It sounds like once they get you on the right meds or treatment you feel better...

I am also hypo and things can change pretty fast. I was on synthroid and then levothyroxine for much of my adult life and finally switched to armour thyroid about a year and 1/2 ago and it works much much better for me. Make sure your T3 free, t4 free, reverse T3 and the antibodies are checked not just TSH. I have not gone off of my TSH for a long time as its not always the best indicator of what is going on. Go to www.stopthethyroidmadness.com for a wealth of good information and good luck!0

Thanks for that! They tested everything but the reverse T3, so I'll ask them to look into it if need be.0
