I was trying to figure out what to get my parents for Christmas and my dad mentioned that he and my mom don't have any CDs to listen to. All they have are cassettes and that part of their stereo is broken. So, I was wondering if you all had any suggestions of specific CD titles that they might enjoy. They're both in their 50's and I know they enjoy/grew up with Aerosmith, Tom Petty, Bob Seger, the Eagles, Boston, Journey, Meatloaf, etc. I love that music too but with the generation gap I don't know what would be the best albums to purchase. Your help is much appreciated!

I guess it really depends on whether they want an actual CD of a specific artist of a CD with a mixture of artists from that era. I have a couple of CDs that are rock hits of the 70s and some that have top hits of the 70s and 80s.

Sneak a peek at their current collection. Combo sets of various styles are readily available. So, if you see a lot of a particular style, look for a multi-disc collection of that style of music. You'll get lots of popular songs by popular artists that way without buying a while pile of CDs

    Ask them for a list!

I'm in my 50s. I really love The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Jimmy Buffett. But I realize that's not everyones' picks. I really love the "Instant Karma" CD that was recorded several years ago to benefit "The Campaign to Save Darfur". It has John Lennon songs covered by today's artists, and one of my favorite cuts is Aerosmith. It's a charity CD wrapped in beautiful music and done by various artists.

You can't go wrong buying Christmas CDs...whoever your family likes - I'll bet they have a Christmas CD.
  • They have good taste!

    I'd recommend Pearl Jam.
