Cooking on "Keep Warm" Setting on Crock Pot??

All,

I set up a delish crock pot chicken chili this morning, and accidentally put it on keep warm rather than low when I left for work. It has 2 frozen chicken breasts in there. It has been in the crock for about 8 hours. If I cook it on high when I get home for another hour or 2, is it safe to eat??

has anyone else made this mistake and have insight on whether or not I will get food poisoning??

    How could anyone here know?

Put a thermometer in the chicken

You might be better off finding another way to cook it, like on the grill or something. I doubt you'd get "sick" from doing that because even though it was left out of the freezer, it was being warmed and covered in the CP.

    Is the chicken still frozen?
  • It might depend on the crockpot....I have a small one that I've left on warm after it was done and it overcooked. But I've used my MIL and when hers is put on keep warm it either keeps it barely warm or it gets cold. I would check the internal temp when you get home. If it's all the way cooked and at the right temp it should be fine....but I would use your own judgement. I would rather you not eat it and get sick because of me.

If the internal temp reaches 165 for 15 seconds, then yes.
