BIG arms, HELP!

I am considerably overweight. (About 70-80 lbs) I am just starting my weight loss journey. However my biggest issue is my arms, I feel like they are my worst feature they are HUGE! I know they'll get smaller with weigh loss but is there something more I should do exercise wise to target my arms?! -- I am sick of going to the doctors and them grabbing an arm cuff to take my blood pressure only to realize they need the large cuff instead. And shirts that will fit me fine mostly everywhere will be tight in the upper arm area.

Have you ever asked your Dr about it? Is it something that can be changed with plastic surgery? I'm not advocating that over weight loss, I just don't know if diet and exercise reduces that issue.

You can't spot reduce your arms any more than you can spot reduce your stomach, thighs, etc. They will shrink with the rest of you. If you do focus on arm exercises, you might actually notice an increase/slowed decrease in size because of muscle being built/retained. This will still make them look better though, less of that jiggle and more shapely. Depends on what is most important to you (size or shape).

This has also been one of my biggest problems. I mean, I was over 300 pounds, so I was big everywhere, but my arms were AWFUL. They are still not good, but they have improved a LOT. I think a lot of it is just continuing to lose fat, and then do some lifting to tone.

No use trying to target a specific area when you're 80 lbs overweight.

Don't worry. They have to use the large cuff on me too. I kind of like it.

One cannot spot reduce. One can only have a deficit and the body adjusts accordingly.

Lose weight and exercise. I have big arms too, but when I was at a good weight they were healthy looking. Hate em now, but I can tell I have lost weight in the arms, just from 17 lbs. And I have started light lifting (not because I am opposed to heavy lifting) cuz I am really outta shape. One day at a time here. Just stay on track and arms will get better. I promise!
  • Okay well that's kind of what I figured.

I have had three kids and cancer in the past four years, I can deal with it... and guys who think they're funny too. ;)

Some of us are just built larger in the arms, too. Even when I was so thin you could look at me and count my ribs (active bulemia) I still had big arms and thighs. My dad and uncles all have the same problem. Finding clothes that fit right was so hard that I started making my own clothes. (In my pic I am wearing the first thing I made- a little green dress with white trim.) The men in the family have to buy shirts too large so that they fit in the arms. Losing weight helps, but for some of us it will still be a problem. Don't know if you are built like me or just need to lose.

seriously, the best you can do is just lose more weight/body fat. We all carry it differently. I can't ever get rid of my love handles/spare tire.

Building/maintaining musle with strength training will help you keep LBM as you lose weight and would be recommended.
