Carbs

Do I need to reduce carbs to get rid of my belly? Particularly my lower belly... Or if I stick to my calorie goal is that enough to do the trick?

That depends on how many grams you're consuming already.

No you don't. Low carb diets are no more effective in the long run than other kinds of diets. The only thing that gets rid of fat is a calorie deficit.

That is because they're consuming more calories then they burn. Not, because they are just eating TOO many carbs.

You're also eating under 1200 calories. What is your height, weight, and activity level?

I'll bet the "too many carb" folks are quite fond of bread, pasta, cake, donuts, bagels. And pie.

Done low carb for 6 months (<50g a day), done the 'eat anything but focus on calories' thing.

I concluded that fat loss came down to a calorie deficit ... low carb did help me get my appetite in check and encouraged me to eat less processed junk tho ....

Different types of carbs have somewhat of a different effect on the body - eliminate or limit any added sugars, refined or processed carbs (eg. modern finely ground wheat flour), other high glycaemic index carbs (fluffy potatoes). Retain low GI whole carbs like beans, lentils, non starchy vegetables, pot barley. Eat any larger servings before or after intense exercise when you burn them off or use them to refuel your muscles.

Depends what you mean exactly. If you want to lose weight in general but store fat on your belly, what you need is just a caloric deficit. If you are already at or near goal weight and want washboard abs, then you should cut down on the carbs. However, remember that bodybuilders and models tend to do that before competitions; they usually aren't low-carbing it full time.

^ Until these questions are answered OP, you're not going to get a whole lot of directly applicable information.

I eat between 200-250 grams daily and my belly is gradually disappearing, along with the rest of my fat...because I'm in a calorie deficit.

Carbs are not the devil. I eat between 250 and 300 most days, and I have lost 112 pounds since March of this year. My carbs come from whole food, fruits and veggies. Carbs from cake and cookies are different...

I've done the carb counting - kinda by default as I'm diabetic - and now I'm doing calorie counting. To me, they work hand in hand. If you're eating too many carbs, you're most likely going over on calories and if you're eating too many calories, you're likely pretty high on the carb count. Just make sure you don't cut too much from either so that you're body is struggling. Good luck!

After posting I checked my numbers. I do tend to go over on calories as far as my calories with a calorie deficit built in (always below average for the week but there are days that are higher than they "should" be) but I am almost always way low on carbs. I don't know if that helps or hinders my stance but I believe in being transparent and accountable (hence the reason I'm here :)) so I wanted to add that. :)
