Here I have been extolling the virtues of my new Polar F6, yet somehow, today at the gym, when I stopped my workout, the HRM told me my maximum heart rate was 226! I'm pretty sure if that happened I would be dead... any thoughts?

probably jumped for a second, that happens to me every once in a while, a stray electromagnetic pulse from a phone, or a wireless device, or a radio station, or a spike in the electrical grid at the gym, if it was just for a second, and doesn't keep happening, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I agree with the boss. My hrm jumps to some wierdly high numbers and then goes back down right away. It is worse when I am just starting out and the watch and chest strap are setting up communication!

You might also find that you have a high max heart rate.

The common formula of 220 - age is just a formula, no absolute truth, and the resulting number can be off the track for many of us.

Thanks all! I have noticed a couple of times over the last 2 days where there does seem to be a short lapse in communication. I do have the occasional PVC, so maybe that threw it off.

I have had it occasionally happen when I am next to someone else wearing an HRM. Even though they are supposed to be coded, it will sometimes pick up someone else's readings and in my case it was COMBINING our readings so even though I had just stepped on the treadmill it said I was at 240 something. After about 20 seconds or so, it came back down to normal. I told the girl running next to me, either our HRMs were combining readings, or please be ready to do CPR and call 911.

Mine sometimes spikes for a few seconds, too. But, mine also does the opposite and reads "0" for a few seconds sometimes, too. I always look down and think "oh my gosh- I'm dead!" :noway: :noway: :noway:

while I agree the 220 - age is just an estimate, I tend to doubt she was up above 226, that's VERY high, especially just for a momentary jump, that's like, off the charts having a heart attack high.

Yeah, it's done that too. Glad I'm not the only one having these issues!

It it were real, it would most likely be a serious episode of tachycardia or atrial fibrillation, but it would also be accompanied by symptoms.

Agreed it is 99% certainly an artifact..

Make that 100%, after all I am still alive and enjoyed a full day of snowboarding after reaching a "HR"of 226! :glasses:
