Insulan - Before or After Morning Workout

Good Morning All,

I have recently been put on what I believe to be a low dose of insulin daily. I have to inject 5 units each morning in an attempt to get my blood sugar levels down.

During the past week I have taken my blood glucose reading AFTER my morning visit to the gym and am frustrated at high it is.

This morning I did just the opposite, I took my blood glucose reading BEFORE heading out the door - at 15 minutes after waking up and it was what I would call at this point "better than normal". It was 149. Following my workout I took a reading and it was 173, this is also the time I take the 5 units of insulan.

So my question is - insulin before or stick with after the work out?

I feel the after the work out blood glucose reading isn't doing me any justice especially since I have to log my reading for my doctor. It looks like it's higher first thing in the morning, but it's only high following my workout from what I observed this morning.

Thanks
Don

Medical questions should be addressed to medical professionals, no?

I think this is a question for your doctor- not us!

I do agree with the ask the doctor part. One thing I do know is that exercise in diabetics will cause the blood sugars to keeping going in whatever way they are headed ( if they are dropping, they will do so at an accelerated rate and vice versa, going up will continue to go up.) In your log make note that the glucose number is after a workout. Also one day of lower numbers does not make a trend, to get a better idea of what your body is doing check multiple days before and after the workout, recording all along. this will give your doctor a better idea of how to adjust your doseage.
