Any women who used to fit this description?

Around 5' tall, weighed 95-100 lbs through years of undereating, somehow gained some weight up to 110-115? I guess in general I am wondering what the process is for a woman to recover from not eating enough in general or much protein and still losing weight. My friend is unlikely to get into barbell lifting, but could possibly go for some you are your own gym.

Check out the 'eat more to weigh less' group here on MFP, it recommends a reset that really sorted out my metabolism after struggling with binge eating disorder! I stopped logging and focused on eating a normal amount of food every day and I gained a little but then lost it all and now I can eat what I want and my weight stays stable.

Strength training, also, most definitely! It is a MUST! x
  • I am 5 2.5 & two years ago I weighed 100 lbs from undereating & over exercising. As soon as I stopped undereating I gained about 25 lbs. I'm now losing really slowly, but honestly I'm happier with a really gradual weight loss because I don't ever want to feel out of control like that again or feel like if I stopped exercising for 2 hours a day & eating only 800 calories I'd gain all the weight I lost back.

My advice is just to take it really slowly. It is hard for me to accept a gradual weight loss when I know that if cut my calories drastically I could lose two to three times as fast. I just tell myself its not worth it & eventually i'd just end up where i am now.

& I am losing...just the right way. Eating about 1300 calories per day & exercising under an hour each day.

Not sure if that is applicable....

Slow steps. Calculate how many calories to eat per day (TDEE) and try to meet that, given a doctor's approval. It might be good to have BMR tested after undereating for so long just to know how much damage has been done to the metabolism. Incorporate strength training of some kind - pilates is a good place to start for those easing into being healthy. Her system will adjust once her body sees it's getting the calories it needs for the activity.
  • The BMR testing is a good idea I can add to that.

After I had been undereating for about 6 months I went to get my RMR tested because I was so frightened that I'd slowed my metabolism...it cost about$75 and was well worth it.. I found that my RMR was still about 1250..which was even higher than some calculators predicted!

It really helped encourage me to get on the right track to know that I didn't have to starve mysefl for the rest of my life.

I'm 5 foot and the lowest I weighed was 102 (again over exercising/under eating)... when I started to eat more I actually lost more weight.. then had to gain and now I'm comfortable eating around 1600-1700 but I'm maintaining. I would take baby steps.. add 100-200 calories a week

Where can you get this done? Are there certain clinics that do this? Doctor's office? Nutritionist?

I just googled RMR testing My city State...something should come up.

I believe LifeTime Fitness does them for about $80.

Mine was done by a registered dietician/life coach/ PT. it all just depends on who has the equipment.

Best bet probably just do a web search & you can pick & choose from there.
