Do you cosume the calories you burn off?

Hey guys,

I've been wondering if anyone else consumes the calories that they burn off in a day? Especially if it would make you go over your daily recommended amount. What's your opinion?

Replies

  • I try to stick to my initial calorie goal but if I DO go over (weekends) I don't feel as bad if I have worked out that day. I just make sure to not make it a habit and not go over the calories I earned back. My initial goal is 1200 so I don't feel awful if I go over a tiny bit once or twice a week.

I try not to. I actually set my calorie goal for higher so I don't eat my calories back.

Since I am trying to lose weight efficiently, I eat almost all the calories I burn, leaving a deficit between 250-750.

Some days yes, some days no. Just go on how hungry I am that day. Doesn't make me feel like I'm punishing my body rather just listening to it's needs.

I do, but that's because when I calculated my daily caloric goal I did NOT factor in my exercise/workouts. If your daily goal includes exercise, you should not be eating them back. If it doesn't, you should be. At least until you figure out your actual numbers.

In general I try not to consume those earned and stick to my initial calories goal BUT I listen to my body and mind. If i'm feel a little lethargic or feel hungry then I'm more than happy to eat them all, just with healthy, clean food :-) As long as you have your daily deficit you'll be fine.

I asked this a while ago on my timeline and it appears (like here) about 50:50, some do and some done but everyone is moving in the right direction.

Every single one of them. They are earned calories for a reason, and I'm not interested in suffering any metabolic damage, thanks.

Yep. I only want about a 500 calorie deficit/day - great rate for moderate loss.

I use the TDEE method to keep this average deficit, but it's the same idea as the MFP setup, just averaged out.

    This IS eating them back.

Adjusting the calories you intake so that your deficit isn't too drastic is EXACTLY what is meant by "eating them back", whether you increase that number before or after exercise.
