potassium

I rarely get to half of the potassium level I should be at according to mfp. Is this common? How do you reach your daily goal?

The only time I've hit or exceeded this goal is when I eat squash. There aren't any supplements that come close to the daily allotment as far as I can tell. I would love to know some other foods that are high in potassium!

I try to get mine from Kazakhstan. All other central Asian countries have inferior potassium.

you probably eat more than you think as MFP underreports

I smash 3500mg every day by eating whole foods. In general, most things considered healthy have lots of potassium.

It also helps that I hit 2600-3000 calories every day.

It can be pretty tough, especially if you're on a calorie deficit. I need it for my hypertension and to balance out the sodium. Fruits are a pretty good source, especially banana and pomagrante...oranges, apples, and pears are good to...basically, fiborous fruits. Greens are also a great source...chard is huge in the potassium dept..but other greens like spinach, kale, mustard greens, etc have lots of it and lots of other good stuff as well. I also "supplement" with Vita Coco coconut water. Coconut water is loaded with potasium and is great after a workout...loaded with electrolytes...natures gatorade.

I's difficult to reach, but it's more important that your sodium and potassium are within the right ratio. If you're not feeling horrid, you're probably OK.

I actually exceed it pretty often. Fruits and veggies are a great source. Canned tomatoes are also pretty heavy on potassium (I stick to the reduced sodium varieties). Orange juice has a lot of potassium. Dried beans provide a lot of potassium. Milk and bananas are staples in my diet. Also, I use whey protein powders which are usually pretty good with potassium.

Also, many of the entries on MFP do not include potassium so that is something to consider as well. I try to only use entries that list potassium if I can help it.
