GYM ETTIQUETTE

In my gym, I will stop any guy who leaves weights on the bars and doesn't rerack them. Usually I'll say "If you're not aware of it (I know they are) when done with exercising, we ask that you rerack the weights."
I had one guy ask me "why" if other guys are just going to put it back on. I said "because if it was your wife, mother, or sister, and they aren't as strong as you, should they have to unload it to put on the weight they need to use?"
He went back and reracked the weights.
You sir, are my new hero. Nothing pisses me off more. Except when you go to get a sip of water, and someone is filling up a 90 ounce bottle.0 -
My biggest pet peeve are the people that crop dust the free weight area and walk briskly away.
I don't understand.
If you got a whiff of what he was talking about....you would.0 -

Lol, I've never heard farting called crop dusting.0 -
My pet peeve is the people who use the pool at the gym for social hour and float around in the deep end, where everyone is swimming laps, and just float around on swim noodles, blocking the way and gabbing. I swear, the other night, the two chicks doing just that were lucky I left my AK at home... next time.... we'll see0

Beware of staph infections that can be transferred via gym equipment. Staph does not go away easily.
This bacteria is carried by 25% of the population and can be a nightmare to recover from.
Bacteria resistant "Super Bug" MRSA's are staph and can result in amputations & death. The following article states that 5 - 10% of us carry MRSA bacteria on our bodies. Could be you.

MRSA Infections Can Bug Fitness Buffs
Before heading to the gym, take simple steps to avoid the potentially deadly bacteria
Use clothing or a towel as a barrier between your skin and shared equipment, such as weight-training machines, wrestling or yoga mats, and sauna and locker room benches.
Insist your gym have antiseptic wipes readily available to clean equipment before and after each use.
Cover any open wounds or sores with a bandage before working out. Keep the area clean.
Never share personal items such as towels, clothing, swim wear, combs, soap, shampoo or shaving gear.
Inquire how high-touch areas and equipment are being cleaned, how often and what type of cleanser is being used.
If the gym provides towels, customers need to know if the gym washes and dries them in temperatures high enough to kill MRSA.>>>

My local Y provides some type of disinfectant & paper towels for us.
Years ago I lightly skinned my shin, just the top layer of skin peeled, it didnt even bleed. After ignoring it for a few weeks I woke up in the middle of the night and couldnt take it anymore and went to the ER and they hooked me up to an IV with a couple of different antibiotics. Dont take this danger for granted.
Wash and treat all wounds regardless of how minor.0 -

The only thing that really bothers me is the nasty sweat not being wiped off. I wipe down the cardio machines before I use them, but if I see sweat on them, I immediately feel dirty and want to go home and shower.
I honestly though don't recall ever being annoyed with weights being left on a machine; I do however understand other people's issue and put EVERYTHING away where it belongs when I'm done with it. Only a couple of times have I encountered weights too heavy for me to lift in my way, but I usually just ask the closest person to help me and they've always been helpful. Maybe I've just been really lucky though.0 -

If you've ever been stuck behind a manure spreader in August, you would :laugh:0 -
We get burpees or driveway sprints if we don't put our equipment away. Its the joy of a trainer owned gym, lets just say we very rarely leave anything out0

The college boys are home. There were multiple plates left on every piece of equipment I used today!!0

I should link this with my "Put the damn phone away" thread because some there don't think gym etiquette is necessary.

because texting on a phone between sets isnt the same as leaving weights laying around. there is no difference in sitting on a bench doing nothing for 2 minutes or texting for two minutes.0 -

nice way to totally twist what was said on your other holier than thou thread
people not agreeing with your opinion about using a cell phone in no way means they think gym etiquette is unnecessary
you really need to get over yourself a bit0 -
