Have an annoying, talkative co-worker?

I do. She never shuts the F up about her farm, her husband, her kids, her grandkids, her whole freaking life story!! Yesterday I was walking to my car thinking, "if she says one more thing, I'm going to punch her in the face  " lol Then I thought to myself, how can I turn this positive? Solution:
Everytime she says certain key words (her husband's name, the town her farm is in, etc.) I'm going to do an exercise for it.
I.e. husband's name, Johnny=5 jumping jacks.
Farm town, Puxico=5 lunges.

And so on. Good idea to deal with an annoying person?

Are you doing this while she's talking? I think this would get pretty much anyone to shut up!

That's actually kind of funny. I'd like to see the look on her face when you do that.

That is a great idea! I too have a co-worker that talks a ton. She also says 'like' more than I thought was humanly possible. I agree if you did jumping jacks as she was saying it she would probably stop (and it would be quite hilarious). I hope that works well for you! Hopefully you don't end up having to do 300 jumping jacks by the end of the day :)

"And then Johnny said... um... er... what are you doing?"

    "Jumping Jacks!"

    "Why....?"

    "Just felt like it!"

    "Oh well... done?"

    "Sure."

"Well then Johnny said - you're doing it again!"

    "You're killing me here!"

    Sounds like you'll be overtraining!!!

Seriously though why not do your exercising based off of a structured routine with a plan for progression in place.
  • You should make her do the exercises.

Yes, I have an annoying, talkative co-worker ......... I thought I was being punished for something done wrong in a previous lifetime
  • I AM the annoying talkative co- worker at my work! lol!
  • I just planned on keeping a tally and then doing them at home lol I figure it's good encouragement to do the exercises I hate to do, while making it easier to put up with her. She pisses everybody off, even the managers, so I can't see her sticking around for much longer

Yes. I think everyone has one of those in their office. Her voice is screechy too, like a mouse. Can't stand it.

You NEED to do them while she's talking. It might get your point across.

^ Yeah, I work with one of these too... and a woman who coughs throughout the day (sounds like she's hacking up a lung), and a number of women who talk and talk and talk...

Nope. I work alone, in a tiny little office off in the corner and everyone forgets about me. Its wonderful.

I used to work with a woman whose laugh sounded like spongebob screwing flipper while woody wood pecker was beating off in a corner though.

Yeah that was a good time.

I don't really think I am one, but I do talk quite a bit to my co worker about my life. So maybe she thinks I am. But I hope not!

my solution is a blank face with a smile. they usually wander off when the person they're talking to isn't responding.

She wouldn't. She'd talk to a wall, honestly. We tried pretending like we couldn't hear her but that doesn't work. She talks anyway.

hahaha cute idea... but what if that makes you dislike her more? I'm lucky - I work with all guys... drama and chit chat free :)
  • I'm not sure if that's possible  At least this way she'll have a positive effect on my life, right?
