Making a Smoothie

Hey I have been reading this book by Harvey Diamond which talks about a specific diet that people should be on. Before I get into the diet he mentions making a fruit smoothie with a banana? I always thought you used crushed ice and blended it with a fruit of your choice vs a banana? Can you blend it with a banana for the thick creaminess than your fruit and it will taste fine?

I use pineapple juice, frozen berries and a banana. I've also made it with non-frozen fruit, and it was fine. The banana adds a really nice creaminess.
  • I use protein powder, vanilla yogurt, a little milk, and mixed frozen fruit - my fave is pineapple and strawberry! MMMM!

I make mine with fat free vanilla yogurt, frozen berries, and fat free milk, sometimes I will add some benefiber tasteless, non-thickening powder if I am needing a bit more fiber for that day. I tried it with a banana once, but it seemed to over power the rest of the flavors (banana is not my favorite)
  • I use silken tofu to thicken for protein and thickness!

Smoothies...yum-o! I always found that too much banana can be overpowering. Here's my recipe for smoothies:

    1/2 banana
frozen and/or fresh fruit (whatever you have, just toss it in!)
    splash OJ
    1 cup skim milk
    1-2 packets sweet-n-low
    touch of vanilla (optional)
    ice (1-2 handfuls)
--blend all until smooth. add ice if too runny, add milk if too thick, reblend. enjoy!

You can make it witha frozen banana. That's what I've done. but not always. It doesn't have to be frozen. I personally like to put banana in mine.

I use all kinds of frozen fruits including banana but I never add ice. I use frozen fruit like frozen strawberries, blueberries, peach slices and mango chunks. I add it to yogurt, 1/4 cup skim milk. The yogurt is sweet enough that I dont have to add any sweetener such as sugar or SNL. The frozen fruit makes it like a frozen smoothie. I also vary the flavors of the yogurt to mix it up a little as well. Sometimes I add a splash of vanilla too.
  • I use a frozen banana in mine (take the peel off before you freeze it). It gives it a nice creamy texture. I put a little of everything in mine lol. Any type of frozen fruit + 1 frozen banana, vanilla or raspberry yogurt, orange juice is good for flavor, a little grape juice, dash of milk, ice cubes & a pinch of sugar if it needs it. Soo good, i love smoothies!

    My smoothie recipe

    1 scoop vanillaprotein powder
    1 banana (not frozen)
1 cup silk soy vanilla light
    ice

It works out to right around 300 cals. The ice and milk make it cold, banana thickens it up and gives it flavor. Plus the banana is filling and is a serving or two of fruit.

V8 Splash Tropical has only 70 calories per 8 ounces. I use 4 ounces of V8, 3/4 C Dole wildly nutricious frozen mixed fruit, about 1/8 C frozen blueberries and 1/8 C frozen sliced bananas. I also put 1/2 a scoop of Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protien (strawberry) in sometimes. you have to be careful smoothies have a ton of hidden calories! When you add yogurt and protien powder it goes up alot. No need for ice all the fruit takes care of it.
